Atari 2600 ASTEROIDS Is Harder Than You Remember

Atari 2600 Asteroids is often remembered as an incredibly easy version of the arcade classic—but are most players judging the game by its easiest settings?

In this Friday Plays, I move beyond the slow, forgiving default variation and play Game variation 4 on expert difficulty, with faster asteroids, hostile UFOs, hyperspace, and an extra ship every 10,000 points.

It may not be an accurate recreation of the original vector arcade game, but it remains an effective and highly playable adaptation. The question is whether turning up the challenge changes its reputation.
