War for the Planet of the Apes (2017) – Rated PG-13 – Reviewed July 16, 2017 – IMDb

Released July 14, 2017

This is the third in the new Planet of the Apes series and, I think, the last. But I’ve been wrong before and given the money this movie will probably make we should expect some time travel and a circus in the next film. (If you got that reference then you just earned some major kudos from me.)

I can easily say that if you liked the first couple of films then you will like this one. The special effects are nothing short of outstanding, the story entertaining and, I hate to admit it, moving at times. You gotta hand it to a movie that makes you forget that you’re seeing apes and not people.

The story is pretty much what you expect. Man fights apes, apes are morally superior and want peace, man is led by bat shit crazy leader with a well armed military, and hilarity ensues….

The film is definitely a different story than the original but it has little ties back to the original that were fun to catch. Plus it fills in a plot hole that the original had. Woody Harrelson does his usual great acting as does Andy Serkis (and if you are wondering, “who the hell is Andy Serkis?” think, Gollum).

All in all, good move, a little predictable at times, but still worth seeing, especially if you liked the previous movies.
