The Double (2013) Review

The Double (2013) – Rated R – Reviewed July 9, 2015 IMDb

The DoubleMy friend Jon gave me a whole slew of movies that nobody had heard of but were worth watching. So this is the first of my “You Probably Missed It” reviews.

I can see how this one was missed. It’s a weird one to say the least.

To put it as simply as possible, the movie is about a guy named Simon James who lives/works in an environment that reminded me of Brazil (The movie, not the country). Who existed but that’s about it. As an example, he worked at this company for 7 years but nobody except a few of the people he interacts with remember him.

So a big chunk of the movie is showing you what life is like in this world, seeing Simon’s dysfunctional life, the woman he longs for but cannot get himself to speak to.. you know the drill.

The movie gets interesting when a new employee starts at the company… who looks exactly like Simon. The new person (named James Simon…. go figure) is outgoing and already making waves in the company.

I don’t want to give away any spoilers but let’s just say that they meet, become friends and James then proceeds to take advantage of Simon and basically making his life hell.

This is definitely not a movie for everybody. If you liked movies such as Brazil or Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind then you would probably like this one.

I liked the movie (the ending was very interesting) but my daughters comment was, “Why do independent movies have to be weird?”.

“I don’t know sweetie, I don’t know….”

As someone who barely manages to squeeze in as a GenXer my memories include more of the 70's than those younger GenXers. Reading and movies are my passions with some video gaming thrown in there for good measure!
