| Jon | yeah I think so. Yeah. Uh, let’s see. Jonathan says. You mentioned that the creator of Night Court, Reinhold Wiege, had worked on Barney Miller. While Night Court was not a true spinoff of Barney Miller, it seems very much like a spinoff in spirit of Barney Miller. Here’s what he says. |
| Jon | And Mo, I know Barney Miller, one of your faves too. |
| Mo | oh yeah |
| Jon | so One of the things you mentioned about Harry Stone is that he saw the good in people working hard to understand where the defendant was coming from. This is also a trait of Barney Miller. In each episode, he tried to find ways for a suspect and complainant to see eye to eye with a complainant normally dropping the charges. |
| Jon | In the cases where charges were not dropped, the suspect was either given a desk appearance ticket or taken to the tombs to await arraignment. |

| Jon | Watching episodes of Barney Miller, I now always imagine these later suspects ended up in night court in front of Harry Stone, where they got another friendly ear to plead their case. Yeah. that’s that’s like your head cannon like you put that like i can see these things working together yep See, Jonathan goes on to say. |
| Jon | Barney Miller. Now, I always imagine these later. Oh, but believe I said that already. He goes on to say, additionally, many of the same guest actors that appeared on bon Barney Miller also appeared on Night Court in the early years. Also, Jack Elliott composed the theme songs for both shows. |
| Mo | Oh, okay. |
| Jon | I did not know that. Yeah. |
| Mo | Didn’t know that. |
| Jon | The opening bass lines of both shows, followed by the horns, make them two of my favorite. TV show. theme songs. Yeah. Boop boop boop. Boom, boom, boom, right? |

| Mo | Yeah, for sure. And the other thing I guess I just noticed is similar is that they also were like. single set most of the time like night court took place in the courtroom or his office |
| Jon | Yep. |
| Mo | Usually that’s it. And Barney Miller took place. |
| Jon | Yep. Mm hmm. |
| Mo | in that one spot, sometimes downstairs. you know. yourselves but that’s about it |
| Jon | Yeah, almost always. yeah They were always going off doing things, but you didn’t see them until they came back and what they reported on. |
| Mo | Yeah. |
| Jon | Yeah, they kind of lived in that little… the bottle. Yeah, you’re right. Yeah. Structurally similar to. Great. So Jonathan wraps it up saying another great episode, guys. Jonathan S. Jonathan, thank you. |

| George | Well, I finally got a chance to watch the first couple of episodes of the new season of Ted Lasso. so |

| Jon | Mm hmm. Mm-hmm |
| George | ah A little bit difficult to coordinate time with the family because all three of us loved the series after the rewatch, and so we all wanted to watch it together. |

| George | um Then… We watched the first couple of episodes after all the trips and everything that Gen X Grown Up has been doing recently. I found out that my Plex server wasn’t downloading episodes. |
| George | So we only had the first two, even though multiples have downloaded. |
| Jon | Oh. |
| George | So we’ll probably catch up on some of those. |
| Jon | Hmm? |
| Mo | Oh yeah. |
| George | this weekend, hopefully. The… The series… How do I describe it? it’s It’s exactly what I remember being in love with with the first series. |
| George | but Even more so now? |
| Jon | Mm-hmm |
| George | Um. The emotional triggers are… are… devastating in the first couple of episodes that we’ve watched so far and i mean like you keep wanting things to happen but they don’t happen in the way you want them to so you’re a little bit heartbroken but then you like the things that do happen |

| George | um some of the The character revelations as to where they were versus where they are now are very interesting. And I was not expecting. |
| George | so many of the former people from the original series to be involved in this one because I had understood that it was really just Ted and. Rebecca and Keely. |
| George | And. Nigel and a couple of of the other people here and there, and then mostly new characters from the women’s team that Ted. |
| Jon | Mm hmm. |
| Mo | Mm hmm. |
| George | is coaching. But we do get to see. A lot of the characters from the previous thing. We’ll get to see Roy Kent again. And that whole Roy and Keely thing is still. |

| George | An interesting thing. |
| Jon | Yeah. |
| George | Yeah, it’s. But then they’ve they’ve introduced a new assistant coach character, and I really like what they showed with her in the first two episodes so far. that She’s got this kind of… |
| George | It’s… It’s almost like the antithesis of Beard in her reaction and relationship to Ted so far, but… At the same time, you can see this. underneath pain that’s driving Where her character is and it makes you want to root for her and Ted |
| Jon | Mm hmm. |
| George | to Bond even more, which it looks like they’re going to do. |
| Mo | Mm hmm. |
| George | Um, the i think the only thing that is really making me actually sad about the series at this moment is just that I’m worried that they’re only gonna do one season. |
| Jon | Mmm. |
| George | And I really feel like after the first two episodes, I need at least two, maybe even three seasons of this. |
| Mo | Yeah. Minimum 2 |
| George | format for Ted Lasso. |
| Jon | Yeah. |
| George | it’s It’s a very solid. Start. to a series that… They could have done wrong if they had just gone after the cash. And they didn’t. They’re they’re really… |
| George | holding up the same level of artistic creativity that they had in the first run. |
| Mo | yeah i couldn’t agree more it’s like even that very first scene When. because it’s so secret you know the ted’s trying to go back to england or they sent him back to england but |
| George | Mm hmm. |
| Mo | rebecca keely and nigel like Go there. And you don’t see them, but you see them coming out of the car. |
| George | Or not Nigel. I keep saying Nigel. That’s a different character. I’m sorry. Leslie. |
| Mo | Leslie, Leslie, thank you. Leslie, I said Nigel. |
| George | That was my fault |
| Mo | They, uh… |
| Jon | It’s a British name. Why not? |
| Mo | Yeah, yeah. |
| Jon | Sure, Nigel. |
| George | Yeah, alright. |
| Mo | You see him stepping out of the car and you just see their feet. |
| Jon | Yep. |
| George | Mm hmm. |
| Mo | But you know exactly who they are. |
| Jon | Oh, I was like, oh, damn, right away. |
| George | Yeah, yeah |
| Mo | oh yeah you’re like oh that’s who that is you know and |
| George | Immediately. |
| George | And Leslie’s got his shorts on. That’s the one that threw me. |
| Mo | Exactly. and And I think they did a good job, especially that first episode, of reminding you why you like these characters. |
| George | Mm-hmm. |
| Mo | So much. |
| Jon | Sure. Yeah. |
| George | Yeah. |
| Mo | reintroduced them again they’re the same characters you know little different from some stuff has happened, but basically the same characters. Yeah, with Rebecca spilling barbecue sauce on her shirt. and like That was hilarious. |
| George | Right. |
| Mo | they said i yeah i agree with you george just like if they don’t do two seasons that’s a crime |
| George | No, I… I really would like to see more from this. I love… um We could go through. We could do… an episode on every one of their episodes and spend longer. |
| Jon | Mm hmm. |
| George | talking about it then they |
| Jon | Yeah. |
| Mo | Oh yeah. |
| George | had for us to watch in the episodes because I just There was so much to dig into there. Um, I really… appreciated. The wildness that they did with Beard. |
| George | in episode two. |
| Jon | ah |
| Mo | Oh, my God. |
| George | That was fun. Um. |
| Jon | A little scary. |
| George | To release. Yeah, well scary, but also, like… In fitting… With his character, I thought it played out really well, especially the whole… He gets married to his bride at Stonehenge and then she’s already divorced him and left him because that was a whole back and forth thing in the first series. |
| Mo | Yeah. |
| Jon | Yep. |
| George | Um, Roy Kenton Keeley, I think that’s going to… That’s going to really be fun to watch. I don’t think. We’re going to get to see a lot of the other characters because they talk about them being traded. |
| George | as an example with Jamie Tartt. |
| Jon | Mm hmm. |
| George | But we did. If you paid attention to episode two, when Ted’s walking through the locker room, we get to see. |
| Jon | You see little names. |
| George | a lot of the names on the lockers but not everybody’s names |
| Mo | Yeah. |
| Jon | yeah See you. |
| Mo | Not everybody. Some people are gone. |
| Jon | Saw McAdoo was up there, right? I saw that one. |
| George | Right, McAdoo was there, um but what’s his name who ran the restaurant? |
| Mo | Mm hmm. |
| Jon | Yep. |
| George | His name was not there. um |
| Mo | Yeah. |
| Jon | No. |
| George | So. |
| Jon | No. |
| George | Obviously in sports players move. |
| Jon | Hmm? |
| George | you know they don’t stay |
| Mo | Always on. |
| George | the same place every time so |
| Jon | That’s right. |
| George | I like that they did that. I like this new team. I also appreciated how… We’ve already got some strife with the team in the first couple episodes where the main striker hurts her knee in the same way that the assistant coach did. |
| George | I just would like one thing. You guys… the The people who make this show have already filmed all these episodes. But if you can somehow Berenstain Bears this thing and go back in time, if you haven’t done it… |
| George | I would really like to see the young woman that Ted Lasso met in the very first episode of season one. who he was playing soccer with as he was on his way to work. |
| Mo | Oh yeah. |
| George | I would love to see her make it onto the team as the replacement for the striker. I think that would just be. |
| Jon | Hmm. |
| George | fun that would be awesome because she had this one little character that popped up every now and then. |
| Jon | Yep. |
| Mo | Every now and then, yeah. |
| Jon | That’s right. |
| Mo | With a soccer ball. Always had a soccer ball. |
| Jon | Yep. |
| George | That would be such a nice fan payoff. but So far, what they’re doing is great. |
| Mo | Yeah. Yeah. |
| Jon | So you’re just two episodes in right now. Is that right? I think we’ve got four, four out at the time we record this, I think. |
| George | Just two episodes in. |
| Mo | He’s four or five at least, I think. |
| George | Yeah. |
| Mo | Yeah. |
| Jon | Yeah. |
| George | Yeah, there’s… |
| Jon | Yep. |
| George | There’s more than my Plex server could apparently handle. It just crashed over all the goodness that Ted Lasso was. |
| Mo | ah |
| Jon | I can tell you, I still love watching Ted Lasso. win over people that don’t like him. |
| Mo | Yep. |
| Jon | That is still infinitely enjoyable. |
| George | Yeah. Mm hmm. it’s It’s beautiful. It’s so good. Anyway, that’s what I’ve been watching. |
| Jon | Mm. |
| George | John. |
| Jon | Yeah, us too. |
| George | What about you? |
| Jon | Yeah. So I was eager to so go see this new film and I’ve seen it once already so far. |
| Mo | Yes. Oh god, I’m worried. |
| Jon | but I’m going to be watching some more. |
| Mo | Okay. Oh, good. That’s a good sign. Okay. |
| Jon | Oh yeah. Oh yeah. |
| Mo | Okay. Okay. who |
| Jon | Coyote versus Acme. |
| Mo | Ugh. |
| George | Mm, right. |
| Mo | I have not seen it. |
| Jon | So… |
| Mo | So, oh, so would see this. |
| Jon | Quick, I’m not going to spoil anything. Quick refresher. In 2022… Warner Brothers produced this film. Stars Will Forte, John Cena. |
| Jon | bunch of other people you’ll probably recognize character actors and the looney tunes cartoons characters |
| Mo | Mm hmm. |
| George | Right. |
| Jon | The premise of the film is After decades of Wile E. Coyote Getting injured. by these Acme products that malfunction, he’s decided he wants to sue the company. |
| Jon | He makes the realization they’re the common denominator. |
| George | Good for him. |
| Jon | They’re the problem, you know? And so he. he kind of enlists the help of this better call Saul is schlubby kind of attorney who only likes to chase. He only likes to settle and chase ambulances. That’s what he does. He doesn’t really go. |
| Jon | to court or he doesn’t do trials. This film was on the schedule for 2023, but Warner Brothers, in its infinite wisdom, decided for whatever reason. to shelve it in fact they were ready to delete it literally get rid of it as a tax write-off |
| George | Mmm. |
| Jon | And but all the artists involved in it got together and they were all posting how. This is a love letter to Looney Tunes. And this is terrible. And it’s is as a bit of a poetic justice in that the film is about. |
| Jon | The little guy fighting back against corporate greed. |
| Mo | Mm hmm. |
| Jon | And. Killing this film was kind of like that. Well, ultimately, this company named Ketchup Entertainment. purchased it. I think they paid like. $50 million dollars for the distribution rights to this film. |
| Jon | It actually releases on the day we’re recording this, which is August 28th, but they had super early releases starting last. Sunday. |
| George | ah |
| Jon | One show a day. at like in the afternoon and i went to the very first one |
| Mo | Okay. |
| Jon | I had a fantastic time. I had initially planned to see this more than once to support the artists. and catch up entertainment for bringing this alive right so i’d already planned that But now it’s not. a task that I’m dreading. It’s a it’s ah a joy that I’m eager to relive. |
| Jon | invariably People are going to say. They’re going to. Speak about this film in the same breath. as who framed Roger Rabbit. It’s inevitable. |
| Mo | ah Yeah, yeah, because it’s parallels are there. |
| George | or Space Jam. |
| Jon | It’s the real world. Right. it’s It’s cartoon characters interacting with people in the real world. It’s this parallel dimension where those characters are real. People know they are. |
| Mo | mm-hmm |
| Jon | You know, and it’s not like a a cartoon talking. It’s like, no, they’re just like. That’s how it is in the universe. And now. they’re having to deal with the problem. I expected to have a good time, and I did. |
| Jon | What I didn’t expect. I was never particularly fond of Wiley Coyote. Part of it probably has to do with the fact that he doesn’t talk and I can’t relate to him very well. |
| Mo | I used to love this stuff. |
| Jon | And he never says a word. He’s still holding up signs in this movie. He’s not talking. But. You get to know him. through the course of this movie. And there’s a lot of characters that pop up and they’re not just accidental. |
| Jon | They have reasons to be in the movie. Foghorn Leghorn is the CEO of Acme. He shows up to browbeat John Cena’s attorney character. Oh my goodness. i Think of things I want to say about it, but I do not want to spoil it. It has heart. |
| Jon | It has a couple of twists I didn’t see coming. It is not Who Framed Roger Rabbit. In a race of the greatest kind of cartoon films. this This movie is about a lap behind. I mean, that is… |
| Jon | That is the gold standard for this sort of movie. But Coyote versus Acme. is just on its heels. right It’s not… It’s not the same caliber. That was kind of magic. |
| Jon | This takes that and riffs on it in a way that… The more you are our age and you watch looney tunes every single damn day and three hours on saturday and right you know these characters and who they are what they |
| Mo | this |
| Jon | what what what their universe is like. Seeing them in this framework. and seeing kind of how they bounce off of each other in the real world. I’m so glad this movie didn’t get shelved. And I hope. |
| Jon | Warner Brothers, somebody somewhere is getting. Browbeaten. Because… ridiculous that they were going to kill this movie. |
| George | So. Couple of things. I think this is the first time that we’ve seen the Looney Tunes interact with human characters since the awful LeBron James Space Jam remake, right? |
| Mo | oh yeah That was terrible. |
| Jon | With real people. I think that’s right. |
| George | With real people right? |
| Jon | Yeah Yeah. Yeah. |
| George | And… i I know what you’re saying about Wiley Cody not speaking. He has spoken. We’ve seen him speak. |
| Jon | A couple of times. |
| George | um |
| Jon | Yeah. |
| Mo | Yeah. |
| George | a couple of times like super genius where mel blanc did the voice and a couple of |
| Jon | Yeah. |
| Mo | It’s rare, though. |
| Jon | Super. |
| Mo | Super genius. |
| George | But… |
| Jon | Genius. |
| George | I always… I think I enjoyed the Roadrunner cartoons. almost as much if not more like they were for me the equal and maybe even a little bit better than the Bugs Bunny stuff. I mean, I know it was a similar dynamic between Bugs and Elmer and… |
| George | Wiley, Coyote, and the Roadrunner. |
| Jon | Hmm? |
| George | But I liked them a little bit better as a young… person and maybe because i was a couple years younger than you |
| Jon | Mm-hmm |
| George | Their slapstick humor. I don’t know. It just felt. More clever? To me? |
| Mo | Hmm. |
| George | than the Bugs Bunny stuff because they couldn’t verbally explain it. like it was Everything had to be communicated visually. |
| Jon | Hmm? Physical humor. Yeah. |
| George | There was no. |
| Jon | Yeah. |
| George | speaking now i didn’t think that way when i was nine years old but i think now looking back that might have been why it appealed a little bit to me more |
| Jon | Hmm? |
| Mo | Yeah, I know what you mean, George, because, like… i used I loved Roadrunner Coyote cartoons, and… |
| Jon | Hm? |
| Mo | My dad one day came up, he says, he’s like, you know what I like about him? He never gives up. That’s like the thing about the coyote. |
| George | Right. |
| Mo | just No matter what, because you’re always wondering, how is this going to go wrong, right? That’s what you’re seeing every time. |
| Jon | Mm hmm. |
| Mo | like Seems like a perfect plan. How’s it going to go wrong? you know. He’s very gonna fall off a cliff, never hits the water. He always hits land like near the water. |
| Jon | he |
| Mo | But he never hits the water. But I always loved him. Like you said, it was just it was just clever. And the fact there was no dialogue, I think, made it that much. more interesting to me. |
| Jon | You know, it’s it’s really fortunate. Last thing I’ll say about this film, other than. Absolutely. You’re going to see it. You’re going to enjoy it. And it’s going to be on your list of great films to rewatch. ah because it’s just it’s fun. It’s funny. I had real laughs, but. |
| Jon | coincidentally something both of you said is in this film in a very concrete way and that is They’re putting Wile E. Coyote with this Will Forte character who’s an attorney. who has no confidence confidence in himself. |
| Jon | He’s always eager to give up. He’s always eager to settle. And Wile E. Coyote is like, he even illustrates to him through. Gags. i’m the opposite i will never give up i will never stop i will never quit And in his own way, tries to teach Will Forte to but believe that in himself. |
| Mo | mm-hmm |
| Mo | Oh nice. |
| Jon | That’s some of the heart and depth in there that I didn’t expect. I expected the slapstick. |
| Mo | Mm hmm. |
| Jon | I didn’t expect the heart in it. and it It just is another level of why I enjoyed it. so |
| George | And can we all just not agree that Wile E. |
| Mo | Okay. |
| Jon | Yeah. |
| George | Coyote is the hero of those original cartoons? Fuck the Roadrunner. |
| Mo | ah |
| George | I don’t even like that guy. |
| Jon | Oh, he’s the hero. Certainly. Right. |
| George | Yeah. |
| Jon | But but like the roadrunner is not malicious. He’s just going about his way. |
| George | Oh! |
| Jon | He doesn’t do anything to him. |
| George | Oh no, he’s malicious. He’s a little jerk. |
| Jon | No! |
| George | oh absolutely he is he’s always trying to mess with coyote i don’t care he should just shut up let himself get cooked and be eaten and be done with it i hate that little guy |

| Jon | I said last thing. This is my last, last thing. |

| Jon | I bet this movie changes your attitude toward the Roadrunner. |
| George | ah |
| Mo | Okay. We’ll see. |

But literally. it’s like they just got dropped into the middle of this thing so it’s like jungle suddenly like right there Um. |
| Mo | see Every now and then you’ll look and they’re walking down the street or running down the street and you’ll see. A couple of raptors chasing a crowd of people like in the background and stuff like that, which is always fun. The kids. |

| Jon | three weeks out of the month and so i had full-size stuff that i traveled with And I’m trying to downsize that to save on checked bag fees, to save on haul and stuff around, you know, but from site to site. |
| Jon | So one of the things I had was, you know, I have this little computer I hook up to my TV in the hotel room, a little tiny computer. But I always hauled around in my checked luggage, a big full size keyboard, a normal. |

| Jon | Big ass. barely fit in roller board luggage keyboard. So ah George and I were talking a little bit at one of the most recent cons about where places that I could. streamline and one of them is this thing because it’s so Like there’s nowhere to. There’s nowhere to can’t fold it in half or anything, ironically. And George was mentioning, hey, you know, I. got these things for my tablets. Why don’t you go looking for these folding keyboards? And I’m like, well, |
| Jon | There’s got to be a certain kind of folding keyboard. So I did find one that I’m… bit Right? Very happy with. Through Amazon, you know their weird random brand names. It’s called Mission. Not sure, whatever, but it’s a foldable. |

| Jon | Wireless keyboard and mouse. combo. And let me tell you about this cool little thing. I think it was, I forget, 20 or 30 bucks, something like this. Mouse and keyboard. It is. |
| Jon | The important important part to me is when it opens up. It’s a full-size keyboard. |

| Mo | Okay. |
| Jon | It has a numpad. |
| Mo | With. |
| Jon | It has function keys. |

| Jon | It has ah what, ah what do they call them? The media buttons for volume up and down and crap like that. Because I did not want a silly little laptop thumb nub thing. Like, that can’t work that way normally, you know? |
| Jon | So when it opens up, it’s full size. When it closes down. It’s about the size of like a sheet of paper folded in half. dimensionally, not thickness, of course, but it’s, you know, it was an eight and a half by 11. |
| Jon | So it’s like eight and a half by five and a half or so. It’s like the size of a paperback book. |
| Mo | Okay. |
| Jon | It’s maybe only about. half inch thick or so. Comes with a mouse as well. But it reminds me of those. Connection wise. It reminds me of those high-end Logitech. mouse mice moose mouses mice and keyboards that we have talked about before multiple connection points and they can be synced with multiple devices. |
| Jon | and you can toggle through like sync with device one then maybe with my tablet device too maybe with It has a little Dongley thing? you know, the 2 .4 gigahertz. |

| Jon | But it. Don’t laugh at gongly thing, but it also. But it also supports Bluetooth. So if you just want to connect Bluetooth and don’t want to have a dongle plugged into something, or maybe it’s a tablet, you don’t have anywhere to plug that in. |

| Jon | So full-size keyboard, folds down small. Connection options. And. it actually has a decent throw on the keyboard. |
| Mo | I was about to ask that me this question. |
| Jon | It’s not just a little mushy thing. |
| Mo | Yeah. Not like a chiclet thing. |
| Jon | It’s probably about… It’s not it’s ah they’re about the size of those chiclets, but they feel the right size. They’re not like too close together or anything, which can be weird. |

| Jon | And they have a throw that’s probably I would say three quarters of. the throw that I had on a real. full size. |
| Mo | Good enough. |
| Jon | keyboard. Good enough. And it’s saving me. Like half the space in my luggage. So it’s in one of those many ways I’m downsizing in my toiletries and downsizing my keyboard and crap like that. |
| Jon | So it really worked well for me. I’ve been playing with it. I use it with my tablet a little bit because I haven’t been on a trip since I bought it. But Mishin foldable wireless keyboard and mouse. You look at them. This one for the ones I saw for what my needs were, this was the best. |
| George | So this is a subject John and I have. talked about. multiple times at these conventions because John’s always like, I don’t know how you go to your conventions with nothing but one roll on. |

| George | That’s all I take. And I can be. there for four or five days. It doesn’t. affect me at all. Now, granted, there’s still a lot of things that John needs to bring for production that. |

| George | Wouldn’t. probably fit a hundred percent into my. packing space that I have between those two. um Those two. compartment of the bag in the backpack but |

| George | It’d be pretty close. The only thing… that i noticed on this last trip and i’ve been doing a little bit of watching videos because first of all i still to this day fuck american airlines after this last trip and i’m apparently not the only one they are having all kinds of problems right now with these oh our pilots are timing out delays we don’t we can’t find a crew any of that stuff but |

| George | Um. My backpack in particular is It’s the Osprey 26 plus 6, and that’s because it has an expansion place where you can unzip and it expands out to go from 26 liters to 32 liters. |
| George | They’re all cracking down on those kinds of things. So my little carry-on suitcase has that same kind of expandability as the backpack If they catch you at some so at certain airports, like in New York or some of the bigger airports. |
| George | they They will start making announcements. Make sure your compression can zip all the way up or we’re not letting it on the plane and stuff. |
| Jon | Mmm. Zip it up. |
| George | so You have those issues, but if you can find ways to… folding keyboards. |

| George | So I can. use the teleprompter here at my desk. um whenever i’m recording those type of videos it won’t fit in the space right here in front of my monitors so i can’t like look at my monitors while I’ve got it. I it’s off to the side. So it’ll be a slightly different angle when I do the videos, but. |
| George | For the price at the time, it’s… It’s a really solid device. now I don’t know. I haven’t looked to see what it is right now. It’s probably in the like $200 range or so. |

| Mo | um I had one that I bought for something like a year and a half ago. and played with it and never used it. And I said, let me try to make this one into you know an arcade system. So basically, it’s… |
| Mo | It’s a… It sits on top of the regular operating system. It’s called, it’s Retropie’s a couple other pieces of software. |
| George | Mm hmm. |
| Mo | and it could literally run all the emulators. Mame Daphne. All of them could run on this thing. And so I was. looking to set it up and wondering how hard it’d be to set up and to get the initial To get it initially set up and working was actually really easy. |
| Mo | They actually have an image you could download. put it right on the SD card, pop it in, and it’s working. |
| Jon | Mm hmm. |
| Mo | It just gives you the whole image and everything. |
| George | Right. |
| Mo | Now configuring it. is a little bit more because i mean you know just like configuring main just by itself |

| Mo | is sometimes a little bit of an effort. you You have to go into each game, figure out what controllers work, all that stuff. It’s that with a layer even on top of it, which is getting… the Retropie configured as well. |
| Mo | Luckily, there’s a million videos out there for this thing. um And there’s a million people doing it. |

| Mo | If you see my screen, that’s the RetroPie running right there. uh i have a screensaver just puts up screens for the games i have installed I only doing a main right now and I’m only doing like the top like 20 arcade games i want to have like the really popular ones to start with |

| Mo | I’m going to get those configured. My ultimate idea is once I get this RetroPie completely done and ready… I’m going to Velcro it to my X arcade. |

| Jon | I will. Yeah. And this is something I played for. too many hours last weekend. This is something this is a game that I was looking forward to. maybe a couple of months ago. |
| Jon | I want to say this came out like in. April or May. of this year, something like that. called Replaced. So in case you don’t remember me talking about it, it’s kind of a pixel art looking alternative reality. |
| Jon | where… Leading up to World War II, as we were developing the bomb. We inadvertently blew it up on. U .S. soil and wrecked our entire country. |
| George | Mmm. |
| Jon | Yeah, yeah. so So it’s like this alternate future. it’s a post You could say post-apocalyptic, but it was a self-imposed apocalypse. Essentially, we poisoned U .S. soil, and there’s an alternate future, and you find documents about the, oh, here’s you know here’s this JFK speech from the 70s. You’re like, wait a minute, how did that happen? you know Because different things have happened in the future. |
| Jon | But you are. People are. There’s so much in this, but you are this detective guy who worked. for a company that was You didn’t know it at the time, but they were like doing. |
| Jon | human harvesting of organs against people’s will. And you you had this AI called Reach that is now. embedded in your own brain and talks to you. So. You’ve escaped? the the company. |
| Jon | And you’re in this environment. navigating around the world. and what i first thought i did a live stream when this first game first came out maybe it was the demo i played the i took the demo and then the real one i think what |
| Mo | It was a demo, it was a demo, yeah. |
| Jon | Yeah. Yeah. um The combat system is so rewarding. You can just button mash, but you’ll never have fun button mashing. And the nice thing is like the timing for parries and things like that when you’re fighting a bunch of guys, they’re not razor sharp. |
| Jon | Like they give you a second to do things. So you really feel like you’re getting good. |
| Mo | ah Okay. |
| Jon | at the combat. It’s not unfair. And it’s. The world is like that 2 .5 D the first time I ever heard that. |
| Mo | Hmm. |
| Jon | was Shadow Complex, Mo, right? |
| Mo | Oh, yeah. |
| Jon | You know that one? I think, George, you ever play Shadow Complex? |
| Mo | Oh, I love that one. |
| Jon | We’ve talked about it. |
| George | Yeah. |
| Jon | It was by Epic. |
| Mo | Yeah, it was an amazing game. |
| Jon | Yeah. Yeah. So things are kind of all on a straight platform, but sometimes you go into the frame or come back out of the frame. There’s a world to run around in that’s kind of like a neighborhood with people and missions and things. But then. |
| Jon | This guy took me on. He has this car that he like converted an old Camaro to run on the railroad tracks and goes to the bad guy’s base. And then it’s a bunch of like… Prince of Persia, platforming and leaping and extra weapons and stuff that you can get. |
| Jon | You have this gun that will only work if you hit people enough. because it’s biometric somehow. And it’s like when your adrenaline gets high enough from hitting people, then you can shoot them. |
| Mo | Oh wow. |
| Jon | And then you can like finish them off and stuff. Very rewarding. i’m I want to talk about it, A, because it’s so good. B. I played it and set it aside because where I last played. I was in the town and I’m like, well, I don’t want to walk around talking to people all day. So i I had seen people talk about it online. Like, let me spend some time. I spent an extra 30 minutes and this game opened up in a way that I was not expecting. |
| Jon | It is a post-apocalyptic game, but it is in a way that like the mythology is so well done that it pulls you through. You’ve got to know what’s going to happen next. It’s it’s been it’s been great. I’m mad I’m not playing it right now. |
| Mo | yeah When you said it was pixel art, at first I was like, eh. It’s not like 8-bit pixel art. |
| Jon | No, no. |
| Mo | It’s like it’s it’s a very… |
| George | No |
| Mo | a very detailed Like. |
| George | It’s… It’s closer to the Blade Runner aesthetic from back in the day. |
| Jon | It is. |
| Mo | Yeah. |

| Jon | I remember you saying that when I live streamed it, George. Yeah. |

| Mo | and looking at it it looks when it looks great is it similar metrovania where you kind of like have to go back to places or is it just linear to keep moving forward? |
| Jon | It’s not a Metroidvania. You are progressing through the world. |
| Mo | Okay. |
| Jon | Like you might end up going back somewhere later, but it’s not of your own volition. |
| Mo | Okay, gotcha. |
| Jon | It’s going to be because the game sends you there, really. |
| Mo | Gotcha. Okay. |
| Jon | So forward progression, forward progression is how it works so far anyway. and the probably eight hours I’ve invested in it so far. |
| Mo | ah Do you know how much gameplay they… They say this has like how long it would take to complete it normally. |
| Jon | Not sure. |
| Mo | Okay, but you’ve been playing a while. |
| Jon | Not sure. I’m going to guess a game like this these days is, you know. 12 to 20 hours somewhere in there, maybe 15 is my guess. |
| Mo | Okay. |
| George | Word. like 40 hours for George time. |
| Jon | Right. If you count the time I didn’t play it, then it’s much more like 40 hours. But I’m glad I finally got back to it. Yeah, it’s very worthwhile. |
| Mo | Okay, if you die, does it, how far back does it, like, remember the games that you die and it takes you back so far, you’re like, oh, screw it. |
| Jon | Oh dude. |
| Mo | ah |
| Jon | There’s checkpoints all over the place. They’re transparent. |
| Mo | Okay, good. |
| George | All good. |
| Jon | You don’t have to do it. |
| George | Yeah. |
| Jon | You don’t have to tell it to checkpoint. |
| Mo | Oh good, good. |
| Jon | It just, oh, hey. yeah it’s not like restart from the beginning of some crazy thing it’s like oh you know you missed |
| Mo | Yeah. |
| Jon | And you can, you know, you can see there’s like always some little animation in the corner that says, you know, don’t turn off your computer. |
| Mo | Hmm? |
| Jon | while you know mario was jumping or whatever it’s that kind of little animation and that’s you always go oh it’s about to go down because it just saved and it was smart to do it there too yeah |
| George | Right. |
| George | Mm-hmm |
| Mo | All right, cool. |
| Jon | Yeah, it is. How about you, Mo? What have you been playing? |
| Mo | So I think that this game is on the summer sale. that uh steam just had just i think it just ended like a couple months ago but |
| Jon | Mm. |
| Mo | It was called Firefire Simulator Ignite. is the name of the game. And. |
| George | Hmm. |
| Mo | Basically, it’s a first person. perspective of your firefighter. Great. And is that… That’s the entire game. |
| George | That is the rage right now. It’s all about these games giving us new jobs. I hate that crap. |
| Mo | Yeah, I know, really. |
| Jon | Just doing work. |
| Mo | is just um And it’s and there’s like basically you and you have a squad of four. There’s a squad of four of you all together. you actually can play multiplayer where people can take different uh be different people on this thing um as you progress you get up new fire trucks you get the ones with the big ladders and the hose on top and all the stuff but your goal is to go in there and… |
| Mo | basically put out different types of fires and there are total Warehouse houses. office complexes, fast food restaurants. |
| Jon | Mmm. Hmm. |
| Mo | I mean, it it covers the whole thing. And you get rated based on how fast you do it. Um, if people die. is another big problem um and people can die like part of your thing is to get people out Like. |
| Jon | Mmm. |
| Mo | people who are trapped or whatever, you have to get them out. When you play by yourself, you have… some control over the other people like you you’re basically the boss so you could direct people like you know work on that part of the fire, work on this part of the fire. |
| Jon | Mm hmm. |
| Mo | um you have to handle different types of things like you know electrical fires you know you have to find the breaker box turn off the power because otherwise it just reignites as soon as you put it out. |
| Jon | Different. Right. |
| Mo | because the electricity is still going through it. There’s gas fires. This is massive. warehouse you have this giant gas tank sitting there with fire around it and you’re like oh crap okay let’s work on that area first and because if you don’t they will blow up |
| Jon | We should hurry. |
| Mo | You know? |
| Jon | Mm. |
| Mo | um It’s a lot of fun. It’s about… Thirty scenarios, I guess you would say um that you that you could play that that you have to actually play as part of your career you know quotes around it um They have an expansion where you handle basically auto accidents. |
| Mo | Like. |
| Jon | Oh. Hmm. |
| Mo | Where you have to have the jaws of life. You have to cut people out of cars. You have to. |
| George | Right. |
| Jon | Oh wow. |
| Mo | put the fires out, you do all that kind of stuff. |
| Jon | That’s a lot of variety. I didn’t expect that. |
| Mo | it’s It’s quite a bit of variety. And then if you go back and replay. |
| Jon | All right. |
| Mo | Something you already did? It’s, um… it regenerates it so the people aren’t in the same location the fires aren’t necessarily starting the same spot so there’s some variety in that although after a while you learn the places and it has some limited like I mean, I played through it. I bought this game probably six weeks ago. |
| Mo | um played through all the missions went back and replayed some of them had some fun doing that I don’t know if I’d go back again unless they come out with a new expansion. |
| Jon | Hmm. |
| Mo | You know, because I’ve done it. you know and i basically you know for me and i think we’re all kind of the similar kind of thing like if somebody dies I have to replay it. Something inherited me. |
| Jon | That’s not the outcome I wanted. Start over. |
| Mo | Yeah. And although you get past with having people die, like he says, oh, you didn’t get a gold, you got a silver. I’m like, yeah, but someone died. I have to go back and do this again. |
| Jon | yeah |
| George | he |
| Mo | Let me find that 12th person that’s been trapped in this apartment building or something like that. Um, But it definitely does a good job of making you feel like you’re in the middle of the fire. yet Floors will get weakened during the fire. You could fall through. |
| Mo | ah some of your people that are helping you fight the fires could get trapped. |
| Jon | Sure. |
| Mo | And they’re calling for help. So you have to go there and try to help them. There’s a ton of variety, a ton of things to do on it. Like I said, replayability once you get through the scenarios, probably not so much. But I can see this being fun though with a group of people as well |
| Jon | Yeah, cooperatively. Yeah, I can see that. |
| Mo | Yep, playing it cooperatively. So again, if you’re look interested, especially if you’re into those, if you’re looking for a second job. Yeah. |
| Jon | Another job. |
| Mo | yeah |
| Jon | When you’re done crime scene cleaning. |
| George | yeah |
| Mo | Exactly. This is your next thing you do is put out fires. |
| George | yeah |
| Mo | So that’s what I had. How about you, George? What have you been playing? |
| George | Yeah, I’ve been playing a platforming game for, I don’t know, maybe… an hour at the most two hours. It’s called Dusk Fade, and it just came out this month. |
| George | on Steam. um It’s a… It’s a platformer with an incredible… Incredibly. rich backstory like It gets so… much into its backstory to the point where There are two cutscenes. |
| George | That are. At least five minutes long a piece. before you ever get to move the character you’re playing. |
| Mo | Oh really? Wow. |
| George | It’s… it’s a lot um The game… essentially is built around a character who is inside of a clock? |
| George | as his whole race seems to live inside clocks and repairs them. |
| Jon | o |
| Mo | Okay. |
| George | But… It’s not. The typical inside of a clock that you and I would think of when we think of a… a clock face or a watch or any of those kind of mechanisms that are very intricate and tiny this is like when he goes inside there’s a lot of expansive space but there are clock elements in this space The platforms move in all four directions. So sometimes you’re going from left to right. Sometimes you’re moving from front to back. |
| George | it’s All over the place, the camera swings with you. um There’s a lot of jumping and fighting mechanics and stuff with your sword that you have. It’s very… |
| George | Ethereal? Maybe fantasy? There’s magic involved. It’s just a really weirdly interesting game i don’t usually like modern games i prefer the older games. That’s why I’m playing games like cultic on our Thursday night live streams all the time. Cause those are the games I like, and that’s what I want to play. But. |
| George | This one did catch my attention and. So far… It’s… it’s easy to figure out it’s intuitive which i always look for i hate games that it If it takes me more than a few minutes to figure out. the mechanics of the game, I don’t want to play it. |
| Mo | Yeah, really. |
| George | but it’s intuitive. It’s visually stunning. You probably do need some solid hardware to run it, although it seems to do okay here on my four or five-year-old PC. |
| George | um And it’s it’s just… pretty. It’s beautiful. in a lot of regards |
| Jon | You surprised me with this one. I don’t remember you being. a particularly big fan of big open 3D platformer kind of games. |
| Mo | Yeah. |
| Jon | Am I wrong? Does it seem like your… |
| George | No. |
| Jon | kind of genre you like normally. |
| George | it’s It’s not something that I gravitate towards. |
| Jon | Mm hmm. |
| George | That’s, you’re you’re definitely correct about that, but… You think about like the very first game that you ever introduced me to John, right? Another world out of this world, whichever title you want to use. |
| Jon | Mm hmm. Yeah. |
| George | If it’s got a good narrative, if it’s got an interesting story. and the mechanics of the gameplay are easy to understand, I can play it i’ll i’ll and enjoy it. |
| Mo | Yeah. |
| Jon | Gotcha. So the genre is less important than those things. |
| George | I think that’s more. Yeah, yeah. |
| Jon | Okay. |
| George | ah Put me in a first-person shooter? |
| Jon | Hmph. |
| George | I’m usually… Crap, Adam? And I won’t play them unless there’s something. compelling drawing me along like you talked about with your game john just |
| Jon | Mm hmm. |
| George | bringing you along feeling like you’re forced to play the game |
| Jon | yeah I need to see what’s next. |
| George | Um. |
| Mo | Mm hmm. |
| George | Yeah. And. I. I think that’s what I appreciate more about games than anything else. It’s not a particular style action platformer. As long as there’s a good narrative that pulls me along and makes me interested in the characters that I’m interacting with or playing with. |
| George | Then i’ll I’ll play it. i I don’t usually find that in modern games. I would say… Probably the last games I found that in are 15 years old at this point, the mass effects and the Alan wakes and those types of games. |
| Jon | Yeah. Right. |
| George | um We just don’t see that anymore. My son and I just replayed left for dead the other night because. |
| Jon | Oh wow. |
| Mo | Oh, wow. |
| George | you know. |
| Mo | c |
| George | Those characters are a lot of fun in those stories. |
| Jon | That’s infinitely replayable. You can always replay that. |
| George | Right. |
| Jon | Yeah. |
| Mo | It’s not none hard. |
| George | But modern games over the last 10 years, I just haven’t found that much that I love about them unless they’re from the indie scene. but AAA games, and I don’t know if this is AAA or not. |
| Mo | Mmm. |
| Jon | Mm hmm. |
| Mo | Yeah. |
| Jon | Which are more like older games, frankly. |
| Mo | Yeah. |
| Jon | right they That’s why, yeah. |
| George | Yeah. right but like i don’t even like the grand theft auto games they don’t bring me in like after vice city None of the Grand Theft Auto games really did much for me. |
| Mo | Focus on story. |
| Jon | Makes sense. |
| Jon | Yep. |
| George | So… I don’t know, but this game, it got a hold of me. And once I finished Cultic. I’ll probably spend some time with this. |
| Jon | Cool. Good. that Isn’t that a good feeling to find one that really you can’t wait to get back to? That is a good feeling. |
