1980 SPACE PANIC by Universal | The World’s FIRST Platformer

Space Panic is a 1980 arcade video game developed by Universal. Presented in a side view, the player digs holes in horizontal platforms to trap pursuing aliens, then eliminates them by hitting them with a shovel. A port to the PV-1000 by Casio and a ColecoVision version by CBS Electronics were both released in 1983. Predating Nintendo's Donkey Kong, and lacking a jump mechanic, Space Panic was the first game involving climbing ladders between walkable platforms. The genre was initially labeled "climbing games" and "ladder games", but by the late 1980s became known as platform games. The original arcade game was commercially successful in Japan, but an obscure release in North America. A 1981 clone, Apple Panic, available before any official home versions, became a top-seller on the Apple II and was ported to other home computers. There were over a dozen Space Panic clones for home systems, often with "panic" in the title. Lode Runner (1983) later put its own spin on climbing and digging, a lineage which eventually took on the name puzzle-platform games. #retrogaming #arcade #platformer #genxgrownup - SHOP http://genxgrownup.com/amazon http://GenXGrownUp.com/merch - PODCAST http://GenXGrownUp.com/pod - SUPPORT US https://patreon.com/genxgrownup - WEB & SOCIAL http://GenXGrownUp.com/discord https://twitch.tv/genxgrownup http://fb.me/GenXGrownUp https://bsky.app/profile/genxgrownup.com https://www.tiktok.com/@genxgrownup https://www.instagram.com/genxgrownup/ http://GenXGrownUp.com - SPONSORS King of Nerds » http://kingofnerds.tv Order of Cosmic Champions » http://www.orderofcosmicchampions.com

ATARI 2600 Lost Luggage | The Baggage Carousel Has RUN AMOK!

Join Numskull for FREE: https://genxgrownup.com/fbqa Lost Luggage is a 1982 action video game developed and published by Games by Apollo for the Atari 2600. The player controls skycaps working at an airport and tries to collect pieces of luggage that fall overhead from a frantic luggage carousel. A two-player mode, in which the second player controls the direction the luggage falls, is also available. Programmer Ed Salvo was inspired to make Lost Luggage when he was waiting for his luggage at the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, and the game took around four weeks to produce. Reviewers criticized the game's similarity to Activision's Kaboom!—which itself is based on the arcade game Avalanche—believing Lost Luggage to be an inferior clone. #atari #retrogaming #luggage #genxgrownup - SHOP http://genxgrownup.com/amazon http://GenXGrownUp.com/merch - PODCAST http://GenXGrownUp.com/pod - SUPPORT US https://patreon.com/genxgrownup - WEB & SOCIAL http://GenXGrownUp.com/discord https://twitch.tv/genxgrownup http://fb.me/GenXGrownUp https://bsky.app/profile/genxgrownup.com https://www.tiktok.com/@genxgrownup https://www.instagram.com/genxgrownup/ http://GenXGrownUp.com - SPONSORS Numskull Facebook Group » https://genxgrownup.com/fbqa G'AIM'E Time Crisis » http://genxgrownup.com/gaime King of Nerds » http://kingofnerds.tv Order of Cosmic Champions » http://www.orderofcosmicchampions.com

ATARI Star Wars: The Arcade Game | It Took THREE Companies to Build This 2600 Port!

Star Wars, the arcade game, was created and released into arcades in 1983 by Atari, but when it came time to bring their own space-shooter to home consoles, they hit a legal road block. So how was it that Atari didn't have the rights to bring their OWN game to their own home console in 1984? A board game company beat them to it. #atari #retrogaming #starwars #genxgrownup - SHOP http://genxgrownup.com/amazon http://GenXGrownUp.com/merch - PODCAST http://GenXGrownUp.com/pod - SUPPORT US https://patreon.com/genxgrownup - WEB & SOCIAL http://GenXGrownUp.com/discord https://twitch.tv/genxgrownup http://fb.me/GenXGrownUp https://bsky.app/profile/genxgrownup.com https://www.tiktok.com/@genxgrownup https://www.instagram.com/genxgrownup/ http://GenXGrownUp.com - SPONSORS King of Nerds » http://kingofnerds.tv Order of Cosmic Champions » http://www.orderofcosmicchampions.com - CHAPTERS
