10 Cloverfield Lane (2016) Review
10 Cloverfield Lane (2016) – Rated PG13 – Reviewed March 14, 2016 – IMDb
If you are looking for a sequel to the 2008 personal camera filmed movie Cloverfield (IMDb) that was about a giant monster that appeared out of nowhere and destroyed NYC (Why does NYC keep getting destroyed anyway? There are plenty of other cities that can be targets for giant monsters) then you are in for a surprise…. because it is…. kinda????
But any tie ins to the 2008 movie are really not critical to the movie at all. The movie is about a woman who gets into a car wreck and wakes up in a bunker with two guys who are trying to convince her that the outside world is under attack. By what? They have no idea. The owner of the bunker, played by John Goodman, basically has them prisoner as he will not let anyone out for fear from whatever is out there (Radiation? Chemical warfare? Martians? Nothing?). You have no idea because you are as trapped in the bunker as they are.
I don’t know if this movie is everyone’s cup of tea but I really enjoyed it. It’s actually a small movie (cast of 3) with a big budget. Thankfully, they got rid of the single camera motif and filmed this like a normal film but the camera only follows Michelle through the whole movie so you only see and know what she experiences. Is Howard a raving lunatic or does he actually know something about what is happening outside the bunker? The movie keeps you on your toes guessing. How does this tie into the first movie, if at all? Well go see it and you’ll find out.
