REWIND: Radio Shack
About This Episode
Originally Aired October 04, 2018
“Breaker, breaker 1-9, I just eyeballed a bear trap with a bunch of Evel Knievels about 10 miles past the coop. So if you don’t want a bear bite back it down.”
Huh?
That was just some CB talk in honor of this week’s Backtrack Topic all about Radio Shack! Any GenX’er who was into anything electronic will have a story about visiting a Radio Shack. They were the place to go when you needed a hard to find part or when you wanted to speak with some knowledgeable people about CB radios, computers or anything that used electricity. Unfortunately, they couldn’t keep up with the times and made some bad turns that led to a few bankruptcies and its eventual downfall.

Just got around to listening to this one. Wow! It is sometimes hard to believe that all the way across our country (I live on/near the West coast) our experiences were almost identical from the heyday of Radio Shack back in the 1970’s/80’s to their demise of recent years. I had the distinct honor of my Dad owning a hobby shop/toy store right next to a Radio Shack from 1977-1983 when I was ages 11-17. I was THE nerd in Jr. High and High School!
Keep up the great work guys – I love the show.
Much appreciated, Dan!
