ATARI 2600 POLARIS Added Something the Arcade Never Had
Polaris began as a Taito arcade game in 1980, but when Tigervision brought it to the Atari 2600, programmer Robert H. O’Neil did more than simply scale down the original. He added an entirely new phase that arcade players never experienced.
Independently suggested by both @theblockydad and @BeastCake1349, this week’s Friday Plays dives into this uncommon 1983 release, compares it with the arcade original, and asks whether what Polaris ADDED can compensate for what was lost in translation.
