Jon Welcome back, Gen X Grown Up Podcast listener to this episode 194 of the Gen X Grown Up Podcast. I’m John. Joining me as always, of course, is Moe. Hey, man.
Mo Hey, how’s it going?
Jon Would not be a show without George. How doing, George?
George Hey, how’s it going guys?
Jon In this episode, we head to the theater to see how well Liam Neeson fills Leslie Nielsen’s shoes in a goofball gop. Goofball gop. Try that again.
Mo Goofball gop.
Jon In this episode, we head to the theater to see how well Liam Neeson fills Leslie Nielsen’s shoes in a goofball cop comedy. Check out the latest evolution of the paper-like tablet device for reading, writing, and note-taking, and dive back in the darkness with Remedy’s gut-wrenching sequel to their 2010 action-adventure horror game.
Jon Those topics and many more are coming your way in this episode. But first, it’s time for some fourth listener email. didn’t know what coming. Did that scare you, Moe? Yeah.
George He he he.
Jon Look, the three of us are here, but if anyone else listens and writes in, you’re the fourth listener. The fourth listener this time around is longtime listener Brandon G. He’s our fourth listener for this episode. Subject line of his email is Mad Magazine episode.
Jon All right.
Mo Oh.
Jon See what he says. Hey, guys, I love the Mad Magazine episode.
Mo Oh, good start.
Jon thank you
Mo Mm-hmm.
Jon That’s right. There we go. That’s why I picked the email. It’s positive. It brought back memories from the late 80s and early 90s when I bought the magazine myself. There was so much stuff in each issue that I can’t pinpoint one particular favorite parody, but certain highlights stand out in my mind.
Jon Spy vs. Spy was it grow great. I sell a copy of the game on NES to this day. Folding the back cover was always a lot of fun. The folds in, yeah. And I also remember there were things you could cut out of the magazine.
Jon Hmm. like I don’t remember that.
George remember an Alfred E. Newman mask once.
Mo Yeah, I remember that.
Jon Oh, like on a back cover, maybe.
Mo Yeah, remember that specifically. Yeah.
Jon Okay. All right. My dad and I once cut out a fake soup can label and taped it over a can of something my grandmother was about to use while cooking Thanksgiving dinner.
George Ha ha ha ha ha.
Jon It sounds like a wacky package. Like they fake labels.
Mo Yeah, that’s awesome.
George Right.
Jon That sounds cool. I miss that. Grandma looked at it strangely and then caught on to the joke when she read the cooking instructions that said, throw in the trash and order a pizza.
George Ha ha ha ha ha.
Jon Mad TV was a pretty big deal in my high school years, and I particularly liked Stuart the Manchild and Kenny Rogers Jackass.
George Right.
Jon Thanks for another great episode. And as always, best wishes to each of you, Brandon G. Oh, how nice. Thank you, Brandon.
Mo Awesome.
Jon We love that you wrote in. We love every time one of our fourth listeners has something to say about what we’re doing, right or wrong, love it or hate it. We’d love to hear from you. If you’d like to have your email featured here on the show, it’s drop dead easy.
Jon Just hit us up at podcast at genxgrownup.com. We read every single one of most of them, just like Brandon’s. We’ll eventually make its way into the show. All right. That good business in the rear view mirror. It’s time to jump into the body of episode 194 right after this quick break. Shut up now.
Jon Let’s get rolling then talking about media that we have been enjoying since we last spoke. Now, of course, this could be comics or books or film or television or music or whatever you’ve been enjoying. And I’m going start with you, Mo. You know, we have this list of topics and usually I see what’s on the list and I know what it is.
Mo Yeah.
Jon But what you have on the list, I have no clue. So I’m eager to hear what you’ve been watching.
Mo Well, you ever have like a show that you just want to watch because it makes you feel good? You know, like Corner Gas was one of those shows, you know.
Jon Yep.
George yeah yeah and then you throw shit all over american ninja warrior and i can’t watch it without hearing mo’s voice in my head back of my head so it sounds like i’m gonna get to repay the favor here now
Jon Mm hmm.
Mo it sounds good as the Japanese. anyway, they…
Jon ah Oh, easy, easy boys. ah fuck good.
Mo So this is a show that it’s actually been around for a while.
Jon Here we go.
Mo It’s ah a BBC show. It’s been around since 2017. It’s called the repair shop. And what they do is people bring in,
Jon Hmm.
Mo like heirlooms or and literally anything that is destroyed or damaged or whatever. And they have experts there that will repair it basically, bring it back to, and they don’t bring things back to like brand new.
Mo They bring them back. So they still have like some of the, do you still see the age and stuff on them, but they make it, they, you know, they just increased the, the paint on it. So it doesn’t look as bad. They make them usable again. And and at the end of the it’s always I mean, unfortunately, like every time someone brings something in, someone died somewhere.
Mo You know, it’s like, you know, my great my grandfather gave me.
Jon Oh, right. So I’m saying, this was my uncle’s. or Yeah, right.
Mo Yeah, exactly. Who passed away last week.
Jon Yeah.
Mo And, you know, but the stuff that they do that they were able to repair on this show just blows your mind. um Someone had a ceramic sculpture that the wind like hit the window and knocks it off.
Mo Fifty pieces. And they put it back together. You couldn’t see where the repair was.
Jon ah
Mo I mean, it was just it was just phenomenal, the stuff they could do in the show.
Jon and the
Mo But the thing is that you always see the people at the end when they get these things back and they just are so happy, you know, ah exactly.
Jon that’s the best part i know yeah those shows
Mo And you are you’re like, oh, you’re like, you’re teary, like, oh, my God, so nice.
George So what you’re describing ah is an American show that was done years before that. So that kind of is surprising. And John should know it because it’s a spinoff of a show that he used to love, ah Pawn Stars, Rick’s Restoration.
Jon Mm-hmm. Yeah, I remember that.
Mo Oh, okay.
George So they used to do the same thing. It was like six or seven seasons they did that show for.
Jon Yeah.
Mo and okay
George And it was people bringing in all kinds of stuff, not just family heirlooms, but even stuff that, you know, they bought at an auction or something like that and wanted to bring back.
Mo ah okay
Jon Mm-hmm.
George But yeah, same kind of thing.
Mo and Okay. Well, this one, they definitely wouldn’t go for like the the good story behind it. You know, that’s, I mean, the people they bring on obviously have it.
Jon Mm-hmm.
Mo But yeah again, they brought in like, I mean, the stuff that you said they repair like old clocks and stuff and the person will get the clock working again. And, you know, and and again, they don’t sit there and like suddenly make electronic clock.
Jon Mm-hmm.
Mo They get the old mechanisms working.
George Right.
Mo And you see him like creating new gears. And I mean, it’s just crazy. Woodworking that, you know, the armrest was missing and they replaced it in the exact copy. I mean, it’s just crazy. The, the skill of the people in the show and things that you see the people doing the work and you think like, I want a job like that, you know, where I can just do something, hand it to somebody.
Jon Mm-hmm.
Mo And they’re just like, you know thank you. It’s, know, this is like amazing. I just get that immediate gratification on it. um But of course these people like so skilled, I can never do that kind of thing, but it’s a really great, just feel good.
Jon Mm-hmm.
Mo you want something on just ah you know, listen to some news and you’re stressed out. You just want to know that they’re good people still in the world. and It’s a good show to watch.
Jon So it’s the repair shop. Is it still on or you just watching old reruns of it?
Mo Yes, it is still on. Nope. It’s still on. um They have like 14 seasons.
Jon Oh, still going. Okay.
Mo it’s It’s been on for a while.
Jon Oh, okay. Wow. All right.
Mo And they just finished, I think the last season air first in January. I think it’s still going on. Actually. I think it’s like a biweekly something like that.
Jon Okay. All right.
Mo But again, if you just want something watch just
Jon Cool.
Mo Wow, just feel nice about things.
Jon All right.
Mo That’s a great show to watch. So how about you, John? What do you got?
Jon Well, I went and saw the show that George was ready to crap on. So I’ll go ahead and jump in.
George Mm-hmm.
Jon And I’m happy to report that once again, George was wrong. So I went to see.
Mo Oh, really?
George Not once again. This the first time. George is usually right, first of all.
Jon Oh, is that the very first, the very first time I see.
George Second of all, this is an opinion argument, which does not necessarily make me wrong.
Mo no
Mo But did you see it yet?
Jon the yeah yeah Oh, yeah. he so Anyway, the Naked Gun.
Mo yeah
Jon so So the Naked Gun series, look, this comes out of Police Squad, The Files of Police Squad. This is that zk that Zucker Abrams Zucker series. Look, they had they like a police squad.
Jon Then they had the Naked Gun series.
Mo Yeah. Mm-hmm.
Jon um Was it Hot Shots? Had a couple of movies out there. It’s the ridiculous slapstick, crazy sight gag jokes, a mile a minute kind of thing that… you kind of don’t see those movies a lot anymore. So I was excited to see. It’s not a reboot. It’s kind of a continuation in in the Naked Gun 2025.
Jon So Liam Neeson is playing the son of Leslie Nielsen’s Frank Drebin as Frank Drebin Jr., which is just a conceit to go, why, how is this connected? So it’s not actually remake telling the old stories.
George Right.
Mo Okay.
Jon It’s a new one. Also stars Pamela Anderson as the you call the femme fatale. She’s the one that has the case and her brother was killed and comes to the detective to kind of get things fixed.
Jon And look like you, George, I didn’t know what to expect. I think for a different reason, you were like, Liam Neeson will be no good in this film. That was, I think your assertion, ah which I loved him in this film.
Jon I’ve seen his, his humorous chops.
George Yeah, it’s okay.
Jon I’m glad you approve.
George I didn’t approve.
Jon And you said it was okay.
George ah No, I said it’s okay for you to think that.
Jon We have it on tape. Yeah.
Mo Oh, you’re allowed your opinions on.
Jon Yeah. ah So I’m just put a pin in this. what you’ll Remember later in the show, something you’re looking forward to that you also said wouldn’t work and you came around later. So we’ll get to that. Well, I’ll remind you of that later in the show, but I really enjoyed this. And when I came into it, it’ll make sense later when we came into it.
Jon like It’s been such a while, like I said, since we’ve had films like this that are sight gags and unexpected things.
Mo Just ridiculous, funny.
Jon And it took me a while to get acclimated because I was stunned at first because it kind of starts with a like a bank robbery. You’ve seen in the trailer, in fact, this bank robbery and he comes in dressed as a little girl.
Mo Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
Jon But even before that, there’s all this stuff going on and it’s a bank robbery. And then something silly happens. And I i kept having remind myself what kind of movie I was watching because I haven’t seen anything like this in so long.
Jon And it’s also the kind of thing where I saw this in a theater about half full. And these sight gags or little jokes or little puns that people would use in ah in the dialogue.
Jon And you would always hear somebody would get it first. And you hear somebody going, laughing. You’re like, what’s he laughing at? And a few seconds later, you’d catch it. You know, maybe you’d be the one to catch it first. And it’s also the sort of thing where there’s so many jokes coming at you that they don’t all land.
Jon but it’s so happened so frequently that eventually one will catch you. i don’t know i don’t know the last time I’ve laughed so frequently and so often in a theater.
Jon I heard so many other people with belly laughs ah because there’s a lot of fun, gross-out stuff.
Mo you
Jon There’s a lot of double entendre innuendo. There’s a lot of slapstick, people getting hit in the head with something or fingers caught in the door of something. And one my favorite things that they do in these films, and this one in particular, is…
Jon like messing with your expectations or your, what you expect to see in films. Like there’s a scene where he’s clearly in his car and you can see the scenery going by and the camera kind of is cutting around.
Jon And then somebody hands him a cup of coffee in the window. Like, wait a minute. i thought we were driving.
Mo Okay.
Jon You know, it’s almost like making fun of the fact they’re making a movie because someone was standing outside the car. Pamela Anderson in this was hilarious. I was didn’t know what to expect out of her being kind of this bombshell out of the 90s and 2000s. Like, can she do comedy?
Jon She can. ah She can.
Mo okay
Jon She’s kind of the straight character a lot of the way, but she leans into the goofiness. There’s a scene where, as you can imagine, she’s being a distraction on stage. Oh, she’s going to sing this amazing, you know heartfelt, sultry song.
Jon No, she’s like boopity-boop-boop-boop, like she’s scatting or she’s doing jazz singing something ridiculous. It just kept making me laugh. And Liam Neeson, again, George, he was awesome in this. i want yeah i You keep shaking your head.
Jon i know you wait till you see it. You got to check that It’s so funny.
George It’s going be a long wait, sir.
Jon Okay, we get you there.
Mo so it was obviously like the same formula like airplane police squad like you said like kind of like in that genre did they do is it at all different from those movies they is it any in any way like change as far as the joke types or anything like that
Jon You know, you would think in an era like now that we have where political correctness is either the best or worst thing on the planet. and But there are jokes in there like, oh, we’re still doing jokes like this in movies? Well, good on us. You know, it’s kind of, you like to see comedy loosen up a little bit and not be so constrained by what the, just the today norms are. And there were a lot of stuff in there.
Jon I was surprised by how much of an actual story there was. The story actually reminded me a little bit of One of the naked guns might’ve been whichever one had the nude bomb in it. The explosion went off and all everybody’s clothes went away.
George Is that 33 and a third, I think?
Mo Oh, yeah.
Jon This was, it might’ve been that one.
Mo Something like that. Yeah, it might have been.
Jon Yeah.
Mo you
Jon It was also one of these, like something’s going to happen to affect everybody on the planet ah to benefit billionaires is kind of the idea of it.
Mo Yeah. Okay.
Jon But there was a story. Yeah. At the beginning, you find out that they’re trying to get the plot device. It’s literally a box that has plot device written on it. They’re trying to retrieve. It’s an acronym for something, but it’s silly. So,
Jon If you like the old ones, you will like this one, I think. You know, Mo, you ask, is it like those? It’s like those in tone and structure, but there’s still a movie there to be seen, and it was hugely funny. So I really dug it.
Mo Cool. Mm-hmm.
Jon George, how about you? is ah Something you were looking forward to, I think you checked out, yeah?
George Probably. i If I didn’t mention it in the list, it doesn’t mean I wasn’t looking forward to it because I definitely was.
Jon okay.
George So there was a documentary series on HBO, two-part series, Billy Joel and So It Goes.
Jon Mm-hmm.
George So first off, if you’re a Billy Joel fan, absolutely a documentary series you should definitely watch and check out. However, be prepared.
George It is five hours long, two and a half hours each episode.
Mo Oh my God.
Jon ah
Mo Wow. Two movies and.
Jon Dang.
George Yeah.
Jon Right.
George um Two Marvel movies, right?
Mo Wow.
George Like not, yeah, these are Lord of the Ring extended cut style ah episodes.
Jon Right.
Mo oof
George Anyway, um the one thing though that I will say, it moved along at such a good pace that it never felt like I was sitting there for two and a half hours.
George Like, Every beat was nicely timed. I really appreciated the fact that they went back and forth between Billy himself, who thank God is still alive and ah bunch of people from the story, depending upon the era that they were telling of the story.
Mo Okay.
Jon Mm-hmm.
George And they literally go all the way back to him being a young child in school, his first musical, um, trials, like when he was first joining bands and whatnot, um,
Mo yeah
George And i think what I really appreciated quite a lot was they did not cherry pick the interviews. So if Billy Joel had any kind of approval process in this, he certainly ah did not make himself out to be a saint with this story. So people that he did what we would consider to be wrong by,
Mo Oh, Yeah.
George told their stories as a part of his story. So for instance, there was his longtime partner at the very early stages of his career who ended up directing some of his music videos later on, like We Didn’t Start the Fire and so forth.
George ah That was the gentleman he moved in with him and his wife, fell in love with that guy’s wife.
Mo oh yeah
Jon Oh, no.
George They broke broke up their marriage. Then he and that woman got together a year later and she’s the inspiration for like half of his early catalog.
Mo yeah
Jon okay
George At the same time, they talk about Billy Joel’s suicide attempts. So there’s that aspect of the story that really hasn’t gotten a lot of ah light in documentaries and news stories.
Mo Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
George um And it it’s heartwarming. It’s touching, poignant. ah They go all the way through. ah They talk to his ex-wives, both that lady and Christy Brinkley, and the third and fourth wife.
George So they pull no punches. They talk to his children. Uh, they talk to management, other bandmates. They talk to collaborative people in the industry.
George There are a lot of luminaries in this documentary. Um, there’s some early interviews from David Bowie in this documentary.
Mo Oh, wow. Mm-hmm.
Jon oh
George Uh, Don Henley does some interviews. Sting does some interviews in this documentary. There are a lot of people, um, even the whole stuff with him and Elton John doing their tours together.
George There’s a big section on that. Um, Of course, his residency at Madison Square Garden that just ended last year. There’s a big section of that. um It’s just, if you’re a Billy Joel fan, it’s probably the most thorough accounting of his story that there has been to date.
Jon Hmm. Wow. You know I was, I was kind of wondering about like, was this like a tell all or was it like a, you know, kind of a, ah kind of a documentary in the, in the, and you kind of threaded that needle and explained that they really didn’t pull punches and they kind of talked to people that maybe didn’t show him in a positive light.
Mo Thank you.
Jon And you’ve watched all this by now, right? You finished the entire five hours.
George Mm Yep.
Jon Yeah. So after seeing all that stuff, like you were already a Billy Joel fan.
George I was.
Jon Now, after seeing all of this, I’m sure there are probably a few things that maybe you either heard about or didn’t know at all until you saw in this.
George Yeah. hmm.
Jon Do you come away from this?
Jon Having a better appreciation for proof for Joel or having a more critical eye for him or like did it any way change your perception of him as a man or an artist digging into this kind of this background and dirt that maybe you didn’t have all the context?
George I don’t think it changed um a perception of the man because I didn’t know the man. Right. I’ve never spent time with him.
Mo okay
George I don’t hang out with he and his friends. So it’s kind of like somebody saying, hey, well, we watch John on YouTube, so we know who John is.
Jon Yeah, yeah.
George Right. That’s not necessarily true. And it’s the same with any celebrity or anybody in the public eye. ah With Billy Joel, you know, the one through storyline that they kind of interweaved that I agree with hearing both sides of the documentary, both positive and negative on Billy Joel himself, is that he has always been and seems to always be an everyman type of person.
Mo Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
Jon Mm-hmm.
George ah regardless of how much money he has or doesn’t have depending upon the era of his life because a lot of his money was stolen from him by his ex-wife’s brother so his ex-brother-in-law um and it was funny that’s a very well-known and popular story about how basically in the
Jon Okay. Yeah. yeah
George ah Late 80s, early 90s, he was just flat fucking broke, owed a bunch of money the IRS because this guy um ah stole from him. The anecdote, ah the story that was told by Christy Brinkley, who was with him at the time, she says they were driving on a trip and people were saying, oh, hi, Mr. Joel, you just bought the farm right next door. And he was like, no, I didn’t.
George Or like, oh, yeah, you just bought a horse from us last week. No, I didn’t. It was the the brother-in-law was doing all this shit.
Mo Oh, wow.
Jon I was spending on his behalf. Yeah.
George Yeah. Um, basically just stealing him.
Jon Yeah.
George But the, the ex wife who is the brother-in-law sister that, you know, he got introduced to this guy through, she told Billy Joel not to hire him. Like that’s her brother.
George And she was like, I told him it’s a bad idea.
Jon Yeah.
George So the people were authentic. And I got that sense from the story that Billy Joel himself is authentic and He is very critical of himself. i I find it ironic because you and I have had conversations, John, about your production process.
George And sometimes you’re not necessarily happy with the thing that you put out, or maybe you wish you could have tweaked it a little bit better.
Jon Mm-hmm.
George ah Some of those were the same types of sensibilities that I got from this story about him.
Jon Interesting.
George um So I came away with the understanding that he… puts his pants on one leg at a time like the rest of us, he might have more money. Granted, he’s worked a hell of a lot harder than I have in his life at the thing he loves, and he sacrificed an awful lot for the thing that he loves the most, which seems to be the music.
George He sacrificed family relationships, friends, business, everything.
Jon Mm-hmm.
George He’s just, you know, it’s always been about the music that he creates. He’s just driven for that. So, Do I think the guy’s a good guy or a bad guy? I think he’s a good guy.
George think at his heart, he’s a good person.
Jon yeah
George um I don’t think that after watching that documentary, it made me aware of that fact that was different than before. Because I guess I kind of always thought he was a good guy. He always seemed to do songs differently.
George about people getting screwed over or you know, Allentown is the classic example, right? It’s just a well done documentary.
George It gives me more insight into the person that I kind of already idolized a little bit.
Jon Yeah.
George um And now I just have a ah greater appreciation of the realism behind the music, I would guess.
Jon That’s, that’s, you know, as much as you might like someone, you’re worried that you’re going to learn something it might change it. That’s why I was, I hope it didn’t tarnish, you know, your, your thoughts of him.
George Did not.
Jon Sounds like it only increased your appreciation for him as an artist.
George No.
Jon So that’s, that’s, that’s what I was hoping.
George Yeah. like You know, he’s fucked up. He’s made mistakes.
Jon He’s a person.
George He has done some bad things.
Jon He’s a guy. Yep.
George He’s a human being, but at his core, every time he’s done something wrong, he’s tried to make amends. And that was what I got the most from the people that they interviewed.
Mo okay
Jon Good.
George They all said the same thing. I hated Billy for a long time. But he did this and came to me and made it up. So, yeah.
Jon That’s cool. It’s nice to hear. Okay.
Mo Yeah.
George Oh, and he released a 115-track Spotify list to go along with the documentary, in case you’re interested.
Jon Oh.
Jon to go with the documentary. we’re going to throw that link at Mo to put in the show notes.
Mo Well, you got four and a half hours that you have to.
George Yeah.
Mo Yeah.
George I don’t have it.
Jon Yeah.
George i don’t I don’t do that Spotify stuff, but it’s out there somewhere.
Jon Mo, get on it.
Mo Yeah. Okay. I’m there.
Mo For this week, Tekken Toys. Well, John, don’t you kick us off?
Jon Yeah, yeah. so So couple of weeks ago, I was came in my studio to start recording, and one of my most reliable lights made by company called Neewer, or Neewer, the N-E-E-W-E-R, Neewer, that I’ve had for years, this amazing light, just wouldn’t come on anymore.
Mo Oh, yeah. Newer, Newer. Yeah.
Jon i’m like, oh, no. To make that long story quite short, the light was fine. The power supply broke. I went to look for a power supply. I found out that a new power supply was like 30 bucks. I’m like, well, maybe money’s better spent upgrading to new lights. So I went looking.
Jon um And these lights that I have are these really cool, they’re called stick lights. They’re like 18 to 24 inches long, full of LEDs, and they’re dimmable. And I use them to either illuminate my room or to illuminate them what I’m shooting on my table.
Jon And so I went looking and I went back to look at new year. I wish I knew how to say that. New year, newer, I’ll call them newer, whatever they’re called. Anyway.
Mo Newer. Yeah, that works.
Jon I really like these type of lights and they work really well and they’re so versatile. So I went looking to see, kind of just replace them with the same thing. Well, they have an upgraded version that I got. Now, before I describe all this, you might think, well, I don’t do video production. I don’t need a bunch of fancy lights.
Jon These lights can be used if you do photography, videography, just lighting a space in a room or an area because they have so many things that they can do. The laundry list of stuff that these lights have. So they are, again, I think they’re about 18 inches long, these long stick lights, about two inches wide.
Jon I say each one has like 220 LEDs in it or something.
Mo Jeez.
Jon So it’s a real even kind of light.
Mo Yeah, of course. Right.
Jon So different from the old ones, this is the upgraded version. I’m of course, I’m gonna give you a link to these if somebody wants to take a good look at some of the stuff I’m just gonna kind of whiz through.
Mo yeah of course
Jon They are dimmable, but in addition, better than my old ones, they’re also, you can change the temperature from you know the the warmth of the light, can it be that harsh bluish white all the way down to kind of warm.
Mo right
Jon That could be controlled on a per stick basis. Plus in this kit, you don’t want get a pair of lights, you get a pair of tripods, plus you get a set of gels for each of them, like some red, yellow, and blue gels that go with them.
Mo Hmm. wow.
Jon And these lights can be plugged in, or they have ah a slot on the back to plug a standard camera battery block. So if you want to take them with you like a handheld, they work that way.
Mo nice
Jon Plus they have a remote control. You can control these lights, both the brightness on off and the dim um and the color temperature from the remote individually or as a group, all the lights that are on the network.
Mo no well
Jon Yeah. yeah And it has these scrims that can slide in addition to the colors that has like this diffuse scrim. So if you’re getting harsh light, You can put in just like this this cream color or white colored gel that makes everything really diffuse.
Jon um And some of the pictures almost looks like a lightsaber because it has a nice fat handle on it because you can hold it and set the angle. It’s a super versatile set of lights. And when I picked it up, normally 150 bucks, I found them on sale for $85 for the pair.
Mo wow
Jon Now, even right now, they’re like a hundred bucks, still a great deal, but they are just setting them up and replacing my old ones. And across the board, it is an upgrade. They’re really nice lights.
George I just wanted to ask, cause you said a couple of things there that piqued my interest. So I have some newer products myself from back in the day.
Jon Mm-hmm. Yep.
George And you talked about these coming with their tripod stands. Now I never liked their tripod stands. They were always very flimsy, hollow, the little turns to tighten them were plastic and everything. Have they upgraded those as well? Or they still kind of the old style?
Jon They’re not super rugged. Let me tell you, they’re probably about the same as you expect, maybe a little better.
George Ah, okay.
Jon ah You know, I usually give them a little bit of a pass on the thickness of the metal in tripods because they’re only meant to hold these lights.
George Okay.
Jon They’re not meant to hold like a heavy camera or something like that.
George Right.
Mo Mm-hmm.
Jon And in fact, notch on top is specifically called, it’s like a light notch. It’s designed for light attachments.
George Right.
Jon It’s not like one of those camera attachments that you would have like a shoe or something. So ah they they go up to about six foot or so. and And plus this light’s another two foot tall on top of that. ah They’re good for lights. They’re not something you’re going to use these tripods for anything else, but they are included in the bundle.
Jon So it’s almost like you get a little bit of a pass because you didn’t buy a tripod. You bought a light that came with the tripods.
George Right.
Jon They’re a little better, but not not super upgraded. Yeah.
George The other part that I wanted to ask, you talked about gels that you can slide into the light.
Jon Mm-hmm.
George So I assume that means they’re not RGB, right? Because you can’t just change the colors on the lights.
Jon That’s right.
George Okay.
Jon Yeah, you can change the temperature, like I said. So like the warmth of the white light with these LEDs, but they’re not super RGB right there.
Mo Yeah.
George Right.
Jon So instead you throw a gel in there and then you control the temperature of the red or the temperature and brightness of the blue or whatever, right?
George Gotcha.
Jon So yeah, so not RGB. That was a whole other step up. And frankly, I don’t need gimmicky blue lights in my room.
George Hmm.
Jon So just the standard lights save me money that way.
Mo yeah
Jon So worked out really well and a huge deal. Even at $150,
Jon is not out of line for what you get in here and the versatility of these lights, but you can find them at the 85 that I got them or even the 100 there are right now. That’s 33% off. It’s a really good deal. New wear lights. And again, check the show notes if you want to see, have any interest. I know some people listen to us and they are creators or aspiring creators.
Jon ah yeah Light is the number one problem people have with most of their production. So it’s a good place to start.
Mo Cool.
Jon Mo, what about you? What have you been checking out in the world of tech?
Mo Yeah, so ah so you mentioned upgrading. So this is an upgrade.
Jon Mm-hmm.
Mo So a while back, I talked about this remarkable that I got remarkable that basically is a note taking.
George Right. Yeah.
Mo Tablet, I guess you want to call it, um and then for my birthday, which is a bit back now, I got the newer one, which is the remarkable Color Pro.
Jon Mm-hmm. Yep.
Jon Oh.
Mo um And so it’s and so basically the old one was just black and white, you know in grayscale.
Jon Mm-hmm.
Mo um It worked very, very well. I have to tell you the truth. It wasn’t a gift. I would no desire to buy a new one, you know, but.
Jon No, it’s the thing like it feels like paper. It’s like the the the digital paper or something.
Mo Yeah, it’s very, very thin.
Jon It’s like really. Yeah, OK. That’s remember.
Mo mean, it’s not like page it’s just like a super thin tablet.
Jon No, I mean, feels like you’re writing on paper.
Mo Oh, yeah, it does.
Jon Like it’s a textured kind of.
Mo It totally feels like you’re right.
Jon Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Mo Yeah, you definitely get that little bit of friction on it when you’re writing.
Jon OK.
Mo So you feel like you’re writing on ah paper.
Jon Mm hmm. Mm hmm.
Mo But so this was the Color Pro. So it has a couple of really big features on it. One, it does have color. Now, that’s super rich, high, you know, high contrast colors. They’re all muted, but it does have color, which actually makes a big difference because I started doing a lot of reading PDFs on it and stuff.
Jon Mm
Mo And so if they have pictures and things, you could definitely see them in color, which really, really helps.
Jon Oh,
Mo And it also has a backlight, which the other one did not have.
Jon right.
Mo So, you know, so this one, like the other one, you really could not use it in a dark area. Like you had to have some sort of external light source on it. Like you like a regular piece of paper, basically. This one has a backlight on it that works extremely well, actually.
Jon Mm-hmm.
Mo Like you, and it’s funny, like you don’t need much light on it to make it effective. You know, just need just a little bit of glow behind it to make it work.
Jon Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
Mo um So those are the two big things about it that I got. And they tell you, it’s, again, it it just does that one thing and it does it very, very well, which is take notes.
Jon Yeah, for reading and writing. Now, you had this for a little while now, so a few months, right?
Mo Yeah.
Jon So I think about ah when Nintendo upgraded from the Game Boy to the Game Boy Advance and or Game Boy, whatever it was, when they added a backlight.
Mo The color, yeah.
Jon And the big thing that the hit was battery life. So I’m thinking about the battery saving on this is it’s that e-ink stuff that doesn’t require constant flow of energy to keep the pixel dark or light or whatever it is.
Mo yeah
Mo Yep.
Mo you’re You’re right.
Jon But now you’re adding a light. What have they done to mitigate the draw on power or have they increased the battery? What are you finding in terms of duration of use?
Mo ah Well, the duration is still way up there. Like the old one, I think like the old one, you go like four days really without charging it. I mean, at least four days of use.
Jon Hmm.
Mo This one, you maybe go like three. you know So it’s not quite as good, but it’s plenty funny enough.
Jon but Still.
Mo um And when you plug in to charge it, it’s fully charged in like 15, 20 minutes. I mean, it just charges like in no time.
Jon Hmm. Hmm.
Mo So there is ah there is more battery in it. It does have a bigger battery than the old one does. It weighs the same though. Somehow they managed to keep the weight pretty much the same, more or less. The pen, the stylus that comes with it actually has some power behind it.
Mo Like when you but we stick it into the holder, it charges, which the old one was strictly…
Jon like a little magnetic charging or something yeah
Mo Yeah, but the other one was not. The old one was just like some sort of resistance thing that was built into the pen. So this one actually has a little bit of a charge that you have to keep your pen charged.
Jon okay
Mo But… ah Other than that, though, let tell you, I, you know, again, like when it like I like I’m a big like paper planner, you know, I used to use a big I used to have a big, you know, um Franklin planner and stuff.
Mo And what I do is I found the sheet space. I found this website that you can go to put in the kind of planner you want and it creates a PDF for it. I pulled the PDF.
Jon That you can then edit and work with?
Mo And i like basically, I pull up the PDF and I write on top of it.
Jon Okay.
Mo So it has like all the date formats, has all the lines I want, all the, you know. So basically, I have my planner back, which makes me very happy. So overall, like I said, it’s it was a gift.
Jon Yep.
Mo So I haven’t looked at the price yet. I’m sure it’s not cheap because the old one was not cheap. um But again, if if you’re looking for something that is just… Again, just for taking notes and reading. Now, it does not do Amazon books, but reads every other format, EPUB, PDF, everything else out there.
Jon Yeah.
Mo um it’s It just works very, very well. I have no complaints about it.
Jon Remarkable. This is the Color Pro.
Mo Color Pro.
Jon Color Pro.
Mo Yep, Color Pro.
Jon All right. Cool. All right. Thanks, Mo. We’ll be right back.
George And it’s time now to talk about games, what we’ve been playing since the last time we got together to have this wonderful podcast for you lovely people out there in the Gen X grown-up universe.
Jon Mm-hmm.
Mo since
Jon Who you sucking up to?
Mo yeah no less not is not a character ah yeah so it doesn’t sound right coming from him
George Just saying, I’m trying to spin a positive light. Why is that so bad?
Jon Because it’s it’s it’s not bad. It’s just you. It’s weird. It’s so uncomfortable.
George Well, then fine. Let’s let John talk first about the thing that he’s been playing. Hmm.
Jon Now I’m comfortable. Thank you, George.
George Hmm.
Jon What are you playing? You son bitch. That would be much more in on brand. Yeah. So last time we spoke, I already had in hand, but hadn’t i had a chance to play? I was looking forward to shadow labyrinth.
Jon Now this is the game that is produced by Bandai Namco and is somehow connected to the Pac-Man and Namco universe. And, It was and many people say it was based on, but actually this cartoon was based on it.
Jon And that secret level on Netflix, the ah series of cartoons based on different video games. They had one called Circle that was this dark, vicious version of Pac-Man with a floating ball that ate the guys back.
Mo Oh, it’s crazy. Yeah.
Jon And anyway,
Mo Yeah, it’s crazy.
Jon and We later learned that actually Bandai Namco was working on this game and asked them to use that as the inspiration for the cartoon that they did based on Pac-Man.
Mo Hmm. Hmm. Hmm.
Jon So it is kind of what I’ve learned in the interim since this game was announced that Bandai Namco has been working very hard to, they’ve all always kind of had, but really trying to retcon and bolt together ah mythology and include so many of their games.
Jon I’m talking Galaxian, Mosconian, Galaga, Dig Dug, Pac-Man. they have this kind of, they’re trying really hard to make you believe there’s this overarching universe that all these things exist in.
Mo ah
Jon Considering many of them were so little standalone one screen arcade games, it’s a little bit of a a reach, but they’re doing their best to try to, there are parts of this game.
Mo Yeah.
Jon And this game, by the way, is I’ve got a chance to play it now for many, many hours. Now I probably put about 16 hours or more into it at this point. It is a Metroidvania, which you guys you guys know, listeners probably have heard me say it’s one of my favorite kinds of games.
Jon I was first exposed to it back with Shadow Complex on the Xbox.
Mo Oh, yeah, that was great game.
Jon Mo, I probably go back and play that once a year and redo the whole damn game. An idea of a Metroidvania is it’s exploration and combat. but you can’t get everywhere you need to get.
Jon When you get some kind of a cool upgrade, you can go back to an area and do things and access things and combat people you previously they had no access to or underpowered for.
Mo Mm-hmm.
Jon It’s not just leveling up. It’s adding abilities you maybe never had. And you play like in the circle short, you play, know, this this guy who’s known as number eight, which implies that seven other people have tried and failed at Pac-Man escorting through this world.
Jon So you’re this character number eight who has the ability to pick up this sword and follow this puck character Pac-Man around in this world and kind of Use his power, or you might say he uses your power to enact certain things in the world. Now, sometimes there are these rails that have little dots on them and you could throw Pac-Man at it.
Jon And he goes, waka, waka, waka around the world, and like gets to places you couldn’t get. ah think of like ah Lego games where you have to be a little character to get to areas that are too small to get into. Well, you can send Pac-Man into those areas and do things.
Mo Mm-hmm.
Jon And then sometimes you’ll combat people. And when you’re done, he does the thing where he chomps into your back and you become this giant, bloody, red and black Pac-Man who consumes, as Pac-Man does, whatever this monster is that you’ve just beaten and gain some new ability.
Mo he
Jon One of the first ones is this big mech that has a orange blobby little ghost looking thing on top. Looks very much like Clyde.
George Mm-hmm.
Jon And it is the G-host is the name of this monster. It’s a host for the right. So it’s a ghost, right? the It’s just weird how they’re forcing these little bits of mythology together.
Mo Mm-hmm.
Jon It’s kind of interesting. But the Metroidvania is amazing. i mean It’s on par with things like ah Hollow Knight and Headlander and things like that. They’re really enjoyed. It’s kind of brutal.
Jon but you gradually gain abilities and you you know you pick up these little bits from killing people that you can use to spend on stuff and learn combat techniques. It’s so deep and rich. I’m sure I haven’t even the time I spent with it. i I barely upgraded my guide. There’s so much more to see. And the boss battles are so satisfying. Once you figure out the combos, it makes you feel like you’re smart and skilled even though you failed 20 times before you beat him.
Mo So you mentioned Shadow Complex from way back when. I mean, that was amazing.
Jon Yeah, yeah. Mm-hmm.
Mo I mean, yeah I still play it every now and then. um juice Is it on the same kind of level as that as far as because something about that game just totally sucked me in.
Jon Yeah.
Mo You know, ah did this one do the same kind of thing to you?
Jon Yeah. Yeah.
Jon A very different style of Metroidvania in that it’s more like um Ori and the Blind Forest, ah which is a little bit more focused on combat, a little bit more on like sparkly, creepy caverns and dungeons and weird monsters, as opposed to where Shadow Complex was very grounded in reality.
Mo Oh, yeah, yeah. Mm hmm.
Jon and It was just people walking around and you know getting new weapons.
Mo Right.
Jon Whereas this is more about the exploration and the combat and learning new techniques as as it is And there’s a story going on that you’re slowly learning, but it’s much more fanciful, I’ll say, than Shadow Complex is more based in reality.
Jon So not the same as quality as that, but in a very different style and direction, I would say.
Mo okay
Mo okay
Jon Yeah. So I really enjoyed it. I’m going to play plenty, plenty more. I’m nowhere near dumb, but I’m really digging. I think another live stream is probably in order because I barely scratched the surface of this game. So I’ll be getting back to a Shadow Labyrinth.
Jon available right now on all the platforms. so You can check it out. We’ll have some links in the show notes.
Mo Awesome.
Jon George, you’ve gone back to the well for something that’s near and dear to your heart.
Mo is
George Yeah, so i i had to do a live stream to cover for A Slacking John this past week.
Mo Well, he’s playing Shadow Labyrinth.
George Yeah, so he was…
Jon man Maybe I told you I was busy. I was playing a game.
George He was slacking a little bit. I needed to do pick up and do a live stream for our Tuesday night slot that we’re trying to make sure we keep a regular cadence on.
Jon Thank you for that.
George And i was going back and forth. There’s several games that I’m enjoying right now.
Mo Thank you.
George There’s that Anna Lynn, which is the throwback that’s got a lot of ah Pac-Man, Donkey Kong Jr.
Jon Mm-hmm.
George kind of vibes to it and whatnot. um There’s Zachariah Pinball, which I’m in the process of doing a video for that ah platform because it’s a really fun virtual platform.
George that highlights an Italian pinball maker from the late 70s, early 80s era.
Jon Mm-hmm.
George But I didn’t know that any of those platforms could really stand up to like an hour, hour and a half, two hour long live stream for the playthrough. So I said, well, my son just finished Alan Wake 2 and he’s been pressuring me to get back to the game to play it.
Jon Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
George So I’ll finish it because he wants to talk to me about it and he feels like he can’t because he doesn’t want to spoil anything.
Mo Right. Spoilers.
George So I’m like, okay, I’ll play Alan Wake 2. two um i It was kind of a last minute decision, so it didn’t go off perfectly without a hitch. There were some things, but it has made me um get interested in playing the game again.
George And so much so that I’ve even gone through to try and fix some of the problems on my computer. I’ve had a lot of issues with the Xbox Game Bar crap on my PC ah that seems to be integrated with Microsoft, to especially Windows 10 and 11.
Jon Mm-hmm.
Mo oh
Mo you
George um So I fixed all of that stuff because I also have that Xbox Elite 2 Pro controller, and I wanted to make sure that I was able to use that in the best way possible when I’m playing this game.
George um There’s a configuration tool for that that I… didn’t know anything about. Nobody had told me about it. Not even John’s called Xbox accessories. And that’s what you can use to plug your controller into your PC.
George And you can configure all those buttons all the way around your controller and do even some little cool things like adjust the amount of vibration in the different places of the controller.
Jon Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
George But one of my favorites that you can do is you can change the little um the little badge that has the Xbox symbol when you press the power button and it lights up.
Mo Mm-hmm.
Jon Mm-hmm.
George You can change the badge color on that thing. I didn’t realize you could do that.
Jon Oh, really? I’d either, yeah.
George So it’s in that Xbox accessory. So of course I’m playing Alan Wake 2. I changed it to red. So that profile on my Xbox Elite controller, whenever I switched to that to play Alan Wake 2, it’s now a red little button like blood.
Jon Ah!
George So lot of fun.
Jon That’s neat.
George um Gave it a try this week and I’m having even more fun with it. That game is maddeningly, frustratingly good.
Mo Okay. Mm-hmm.
George Like it will drive you insane, but you’ll enjoy the trip.
Mo okay
George It’s a solid game.
Jon Is like a difficulty doing it or?
George but Difficulty trying to, cause it’s, it’s got a combat history to it as well. It’s also a lot of puzzle solving because inherently it’s a mystery, right?
Jon Right.
George You’re trying to solve the story.
Mo he
George oh Of course, like I’ve talked about in the past, it has a direct tie to the original Alan Wake game, and they were cognizant of the amount of time that’s passed between that game and now, and they built that into the storyline.
George So you are, you know, 13, 14 years later from whenever they released, I think it was 13 years because I think they released this in 2023, and the first one came out in 2010.
Jon Oh.
Mo Oh, yeah.
Jon Okay. Right.
Jon Right.
George Good, solid game. Apparently, as I get toward the end, there’s also some crossover characters from another game that that same studio did called Control, because those two games occupy the same universe.
Jon Oh.
Mo oh yeah
Jon Mm-hmm. Yeah.
George ah So I’m looking forward to that point. According to my son, I’m a little more than halfway through now.
Jon and Okay.
George But like Oxenfree, when I finish it, it opens up whole new thing to do.
Jon Progress.
Jon Yeah.
Mo Oh.
Jon Well, more endings.
George So there’s still a lot to this game.
Jon More life to it.
Jon Yeah. Did you, so how much, how much progress do you think you made on the live stream? Is there about halfway now and you just started a little bit? you, did you make it like another 20, 30%? How much birth further did you get?
George I mean, i played through like two storyline sections.
Jon Okay.
George Like I completed two goals. I’ll say that much. So um I completed this one.
Jon All right. Yep.
George Then I went down and found this thing and completed a second one. And I said, you know what? It was, I think an hour and 15 minutes into the stream at that point. I was like, if I wanted to complete the next goal, it might take me another 45 minutes or an hour.
George And I don’t want to stay for over two. So I’m going to stop here.
Mo Thank you.
George But I did complete that goal today.
Jon That makes sense.
George So yeah, it’s, ah and it did, it took about like 30 minutes or so.
Jon Oh, did you? Yeah.
George But there, there’s a lot of fun in it.
Jon Yeah.
George It’s a, it’s a deeply intricate game and you have to pay attention to everything because everything’s hidden in the shadows.
Jon Mm-hmm.
George That’s what Alan Wake is all about. So if you like those types of games, story-driven rich games, especially ones that have a long backstory and history, Alan Wake 2 is definitely a solid choice.
Jon Yep.
George You can get it on Xbox, PlayStation, and Epic Game Store.
Mo Nice.
Jon Well, I’m happy that Maya Slakin’ got you back into a game that you love so much. So you’re welcome.
Jon As we wound out, as wound out? Five, four, three. As we round out the back end of the show, you know, we always like to take just a second here to pause and talk about the things we’re looking at now or looking forward to between now and the next time we get together. Sometimes it’s kind of peeks into what we might be talking about next time we get together. So George, let me hear what you have on the horizon.
George Well, so the first thing that I put on my looking forward to is really just to fill a slot. I really could give two shits less about this movie.
Jon Damn it, George. Damn it, George.
George I’m just going to kill John’s Thunder right away.
Mo Over to Kirk.
George Now, it’s a sequel called Nobody 2 based, ah you know, from the original Nobody stars. um Was it, is it Otakirk is his last name, right?
Mo Yeah.
Jon Bob Odenkirk.
Mo Bob O’Gorkirk.
Jon Yeah.
George Bob Odenkirk.
Jon Yeah.
George ah He was not a guy I saw as an action hero, and I don’t think this is an action hero movie, even from the first one.
Jon Mm-hmm.
George um I think it’s kind of like… kind of like the original Die Hard was. Like, he’s really kind of feels like an average everyman at first, and then some wild shit happens around him.
Jon Yeah.
George Just so happens that this guy is, like, so unassuming you would have no clue that he could do the things he does in the film. And I think the second one will just be more of the same, which should be fun.
Jon Yeah, you were really given ah poor Odenkirk the Liam Neeson treatment back when nobody came It’s like, there’s no way he could possibly be. And he was really good in that movie.
Mo Yeah.
Jon So that was.
George He was good, and I think he was good, and I think the film was done well is what really enhanced it.
Jon yeah
Jon Absolutely. Yeah. Yeah.
George Second thing I’m looking forward to, that’s, by the way, on August 15th when Nobody 2 comes out.
Jon Oh, yeah.
George ah Second thing is kind of a curiosity for me. It’s a um kind of a mystery detective kind of thing um called Irish Blood, and this is season one, and it’s on an unusual network called Acorn. it starts on August the eleventh The reason why I’m kind of interested in it is this is a drama starring in this genre somebody I would have never expected. Alicia Silverstone.
Jon Huh.
Mo and Okay.
George I haven’t seen her in years um in anything other than, you know, a ditzy comedy. She kind of got typecast in that from Clueless.
Jon you Right.
George um But this one looks like it might be serviceable. So I’m going to give at least an episode or two to it just to see if it’s worth it.
Jon Okay.
Jon Sure.
George ah But the thing that I think I’m looking forward to the most because it’s one of my favorite IPs of all time, Alien Earth Season 1 debuts on Hulu August the 12th.
Jon Mm-hmm.
George So the very next day after Irish Blood.
Jon Yeah.
George So this is a series that takes place in the Alien universe that Sigourney Weaver ah made famous and popular throughout all those films. ah We’ve seen the Prometheus stuff that’s kind of ah hit or miss, depending on how you feel about it.
George But this series does look to be like it’s going to, it looks well put together from the trailers.
Mo Yeah, it definitely does.
George I’ll say that much. So I’m looking forward to it.
Jon Yep.
George What about you, John?
Jon Yep.
George What are you looking forward to?
Jon Yeah, you know, I’m also looking very much forward to Alien Earth, you know, coming out of Hulu. It’s made by Noah Hawley, the guy that translated Fargo to the small screen for us. So I have high hopes for that. Also, now, by the time you hear this, it will have dropped, but it’s still a few days in the future for me.
Jon And I mentioned last time, season 14 of King of the Hill, the animated series, not a reboot, a revival.
George Right.
Jon It’s like eight or 10 years later, picks up the same characters. They’re all older, different point in their life. Really excited about that. The thing I’m so looking forward to, and it’s a toss up, but yeah I put it in my most favorite slot this time, is a horror film coming out August 8th called Weapons.
Mo Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
Jon And I have been dying to see this ever since I saw the trailers. The premise is that this classroom of kids overnight in the middle of the night, every single one of them got up and walked out of their house and disappeared.
Jon Not abducted.
George Oh, yeah. I saw the trailer for that.
Jon Just gone.
George Yeah.
Jon And now the teacher, of course, is under fire. What’d you do to the kids? What’d you cause? it Why is it your class? Why did happen to everyone? And people are dying in crazy ways. I’ve, now that I know i want to see it. And at the time of recording, it has a 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Mo Wow.
Jon That’s only with about 15 reviews, but 15 reviews agree.
George Hmm.
Jon fifteen reviews agree I’m so excited for this film. Looking forward to see it.
Mo Oh, wow.
Jon That’s August 8th in theaters.
Mo Yeah, me too.
Jon I have my ticket already. This is going to be a nacho caliber film. I’m ready to go watch it in the theater, sit down and enjoy it. Mo, what about you? What you got coming up?
Mo Let’s see. There’s a show on Disney Plus called Eyes of Wakanda. It’s a ah a series of animated films.
Jon Hmm.
George Oh, animated. Yeah.
Mo Yep. um And each one is about some some event that took place in the history of Wakanda, you know, basically.
Jon Oh.
Jon Hmm.
Mo um It’s already out. It came out ah today, actually. It’s August 1st when we’re recording this. um I did watch the first one. It is very cool. It is… Very, very cool Groot storylines.
Jon Okay.
Mo I mean, just the first one, i’m like, oh, I got to watch rest these. Also, The Boys, season four, ah that kind of stuck up on me.
George Oh yeah.
Jon Yeah.
George Final season.
Mo That’s coming up. Yep, that’s coming up ah the 18th of August, which again, you know, I’ve watched all the rest. Got to finish it at this point.
Jon Wrap Yep. Oh,
Mo um And what I’m mostly looking looking for, which is something that George brought up earlier, is Nobody 2, because that was a movie that but when I but when nobody came out, when I went to go see it, I i had like almost no expectations for it.
Jon so yeah. Yeah.
Mo I mean, honestly, right. Because was like, Bob Odenkirk, like, know, actually, OK, we’ll see, you know, um and I loved that movie.
Jon Mm-hmm.
Mo I just thought is his character and Christopher Lloyd in it. I mean, it was just, you know, and so looking at the trailer for the new one, it just, you know the fact that you’re playing like Masha Alpoon’s vacation, you know, song in the background, Holly road and something, you know, I’m like, this could be, this could be pretty good.
Jon Mm-hmm.
Jon Yep. Holiday room.
Mo So I’m really looking forward to that movie again. That’s coming out August fifteenth
Jon Yeah. yeah Yeah. I’ll be there too. Yeah. It looks good. All three of us. i just didn’t have it on my list, but I’m definitely looking forward to it. Hey, before i’ let you go, I need to thank another brand new Patreon supporter. We always talk about our our patrons and how much we appreciate them and how they are, how we’re able to continue doing what we’re doing.
Jon And I want to welcome Matt M., who headed over to patreon.com slash Gen X Grown Up, opened up his heart in his wallet and signed up.
Mo Nice. that’s cool.
Jon And when I fired off a note to thank him for joining, he wrote me back with a quick note that I wanted to share with you guys to make sure you had a chance to hear it. Matt says, I’ve been listening to your podcast for the past couple of weeks.
Jon I’ve been a subscriber on YouTube for a bit. I really enjoy the content, especially the backtracks and videos where rank games and take an old game and test it, clean it. I decided to become a Patreon member.
Jon Thank you for all the time and content you guys create. Matt M. Matt, thank you.
Mo ah that’s cool
Jon I’ll tell you, lots and lots of people enjoy our content. A very, very small percentage of them actually take the time and effort and energy to go over and support what we do financially. Matt, thank you so much.
Jon You’re joining a roster of fan fantastic and generous people that ah continue to make sure that we can… Stay solvent and keep ah giving you this show and the stuff you talked about on YouTube. We’re so grateful for you.
Jon If you’d like to join Matt, again, super simple. Just head over to patreon.com slash Gen X Grown Up. Sign up for a regular monthly pledge. As little as a dollar. That’s all it takes. You’d pay a dollar for this podcast.
Jon You get four of them in a month. That’s 25 cents a show. It’s the cost of playing Galaga. It’s really easy. We really would appreciate your help. Head on over there if you would. Okay. Before we leave. Oh, no. Before we leave.
Jon Okay, that’s about going to wrap it up. But don’t worry. If you were worried, don’t worry.
Mo Thank you.
Jon We’ll back in two weeks with another regular episode. And next week, well, that’s our backtrack. We pick a single nostalgic topic and dig in deep. Mo, would you care to do the honors and let the fourth listener know what’s coming up next week?
Mo Oh, absolutely. I can’t believe it’s been 40 years, but 40 years ago, Mad Max Thunderdome came out with Tina Turner.
Jon Hmm.
Mo I mean, again, it’s like, wow, that came out 40 years ago. But again, it was a huge movie. It did really well. So we’re going talking about our next podcast.
Jon Yep. You don’t want to miss that one. That’s going to wrap it up for this one. Then we hope to see you back here for next week. Until then, I am John George. Thank you so much for being here, man.
George Yes, sir.
Jon Mo, you know, i appreciate you.
Mo No problem. Sorry. in
Mo Always fun, man.
Jon Fourth listeners, you will appreciate most of all. We can’t wait to talk to you again next time. Bye-bye.
George See you guys.
Mo Take care, everybody.

Mo As someone who barely manages to squeeze in as a GenXer my memories include more of the 70's than those younger GenXers. Reading and movies are my passions with some video gaming thrown in there for good measure!
