Marauder for the Atari 2600 may look a lot like Berzerk at first glance, but Tigervision’s 1982 maze shooter has some clever ideas of its own. There’s a real objective to your exploration, a temporary invincibility shield, faster-paced action, and a unique line-of-sight mechanic that changes when enemies are even visible. Originally based on a larger computer game from On-Line Systems — the company that would become Sierra On-Line — this 2600 version preserves the alien-base infiltration half of the original experience. In this Friday Plays, we take a closer look at Marauder, see how it compares to Berzerk, and find out whether this overlooked Atari game really has more going on than its simple appearance suggests. Thanks to Friday Plays viewer Heckensteiner for the recommendation! #retrogaming #atari #atari2600 #genxgrownup - SHOP http://genxgrownup.com/amazon http://GenXGrownUp.com/merch - PODCAST http://GenXGrownUp.com/pod - SUPPORT US https://patreon.com/genxgrownup - WEB & SOCIAL http://GenXGrownUp.com/discord https://twitch.tv/genxgrownup http://fb.me/GenXGrownUp https://bsky.app/profile/genxgrownup.com https://www.tiktok.com/@genxgrownup https://www.instagram.com/genxgrownup/ http://GenXGrownUp.com - SPONSORS Fightbox » https://genxgrownup.com/fightbox King of Nerds » http://kingofnerds.tv Order of Cosmic Champions » http://www.orderofcosmicchampions.com

Polaris began as a Taito arcade game in 1980, but when Tigervision brought it to the Atari 2600, programmer Robert H. O’Neil did more than simply scale down the original. He added an entirely new phase that arcade players never experienced. Independently suggested by both @theblockydad and @BeastCake1349, this week’s Friday Plays dives into this uncommon 1983 release, compares it with the arcade original, and asks whether what Polaris ADDED can compensate for what was lost in translation. #atari #retrogaming #vintage #genxgrownup - SHOP http://genxgrownup.com/amazon http://GenXGrownUp.com/merch - PODCAST http://GenXGrownUp.com/pod - SUPPORT US https://patreon.com/genxgrownup - WEB & SOCIAL http://GenXGrownUp.com/discord https://twitch.tv/genxgrownup http://fb.me/GenXGrownUp https://bsky.app/profile/genxgrownup.com https://www.tiktok.com/@genxgrownup https://www.instagram.com/genxgrownup/ http://GenXGrownUp.com - SPONSORS Order of Cosmic Champions » http://www.orderofcosmicchampions.com King of Nerds » http://kingofnerds.tv

One little metal ball. A whole obstacle course. And every move is up to you. After I featured TOMY’s Magnetic Pac-Man Maze https://youtu.be/fCBA0-q2p9Y , so many of you mentioned Screwball Scramble that I had to revisit the game I remembered from my school library as Run Yourself Ragged! This vintage TOMY game puts a miniature mechanical obstacle course at your fingertips, with buttons, levers, and a dial controlling everything from seesaws and parallel bars to a hidden maze and the final launch toward the bell. No batteries. Just skill—and maybe a little patience. Join me for a look at its history, how Run Yourself Ragged connects to Screwball Scramble, and some hands-on attempts to guide that little ball all the way to the finish! #boardgames #vintage #tomy #genxgrownup - SHOP Screwball Scramble: https://link.amazon/B0hs6uOlj Screwball Scramble L2: https://us.tomy.com/screwball-scramble-2 http://genxgrownup.com/amazon http://GenXGrownUp.com/merch - PODCAST http://GenXGrownUp.com/pod - SUPPORT US https://patreon.com/genxgrownup - WEB & SOCIAL http://GenXGrownUp.com/discord https://twitch.tv/genxgrownup http://fb.me/GenXGrownUp https://bsky.app/profile/genxgrownup.com https://www.tiktok.com/@genxgrownup https://www.instagram.com/genxgrownup/ http://GenXGrownUp.com - SPONSORS Order of Cosmic Champions » http://www.orderofcosmicchampions.com King of Nerds » http://kingofnerds.tv - CHAPTERS 00:00 Pac-to-Screwball 01:30 Box & Assembly 03:00 Course Tour 05:48 Real-Time Run 07:45 Conclusion

The GXG crew is amped to learn of a classic arcade mecca just a short drive south in Daytona Beach, Florida.
