ATARI NECROMANCER: Your Past Comes Back to HAUNT You!

Evil sorcerers, giant spiders, and an army of walking trees? Welcome to NECROMANCER, a wonderfully bizarre Atari 8-bit game from 1982! Developed by Bill Williams and published by Synapse Software, this spooky arcade adventure is a little more complicated than it first appears. Its three interconnected stages mean that what you do early in the game can come back to haunt you later!

I spent countless hours playing Necromancer on my Atari computer as a kid, but without the instruction manual, I never quite understood how everything fit together. More than 40 years later, I’m returning to this childhood favorite with a little more knowledge and a lot of nostalgia. Will that make a difference?

With the newly announced THE 800XL recreation on the horizon, I’m excited to revisit more Atari 8-bit classics on Friday Plays. And what better time than October to dust off this creepy, imaginative adventure?
