You’ve surely noticed that almost every modern game controller puts the directional controls on the left and the action buttons on the right. Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo — pretty much everybody. But here’s the thing – That layout wasn’t always the standard. In fact, some of the earliest home console controllers were ambidextrous, or even designed to be held in the left hand while working the joystick with the right. So how did we end up with the layout we all take for granted today, and is it wrong?
