ATARI Robotron: 2084 for the 7800 | Defend Humanity From the Robotic Uprising!

The original Robotron: 2084 hit arcades in 1982, and its frantic dual-stick gameplay and sound design was a hit with players, making it an obvious choice to bring to the home market. Atari created a port of Robotron for their 7800 console in 1984, but like the console itself, it sat on the shelf until finally hitting stores in May of 1986.

The premise of Robotron, while set in the still-distant future of 2084, hits a bit close to home for those of us here in 2026: “At first it was a technological breakthrough. Humans created the Robotrons — a species of robots so advanced they didn’t need their inventors in order to think and act. But the Robotrons have turned on their creators! They’re now determined to destroy humanity — or reprogram the survivors, turning them into destructive mutants!”
