1988 Blaster Master on the NES | An Early METROIDVANIA?

Blaster Master is a platform and run and gun video game released by Sunsoft for the Nintendo Entertainment System. It is a localized version of a Japanese Famicom game titled Ch? Wakusei Senki Metafight (???????????, lit. "Super Planetary War Chronicle: Metafight", also simply called Metafight), which was released on June 17, 1988. The game was released in North America in November 1988 and in Europe on April 25, 1991. The game is the first in the Blaster Master series, and it spawned two spin-off games as well as two sequels. Not that Jon would know any of that, though, since he's NEVER played Blaster Master. In this second experimental video, Jon fires up Blaster Master for the first time to see what all the fuss is about! The game features a character named Jason who follows his pet frog Fred down a hole in the earth. There he finds a tank and uses it to battle radioactive mutants. The player controls Jason and the tank Sophia the 3rd through eight levels of gameplay to find the whereabouts of Fred and to defeat the mutants and their leader, the Plutonium Boss. The game was praised for its smooth play control and level designs, detailed and clean graphics, and music, and it was criticized for its high difficulty level and lack of passwords or save points. The game was novelized by Peter Lerangis, as part of the Worlds of Power series published by Scholastic Books. #nintendo #retrogaming #genxgrownup - SHOP http://genxgrownup.com/amazon http://GenXGrownUp.com/merch - PODCAST http://GenXGrownUp.com/pod - SUPPORT US https://patreon.com/genxgrownup - WEB & SOCIAL http://GenXGrownUp.com/discord https://twitch.tv/genxgrownup http://fb.me/GenXGrownUp https://bsky.app/profile/genxgrownup.com https://www.tiktok.com/@genxgrownup https://www.instagram.com/genxgrownup/ http://GenXGrownUp.com - SPONSORS King of Nerds » http://kingofnerds.tv Order of Cosmic Champions » http://www.orderofcosmicchampions.com

Asterix is a typical side scrolling platform game where either Asterix or Obelix must navigate through each stage, in most stages the player must locate a key that will open a door at the end of the stage, some stages a boss must be defeated to complete the stage. Not that Jon would know any of that, though, since he's NEVER played Asterix. In this experimental video, Jon first up Asterix for the first time to see what all the fuss is about! The game is broken up into 8 different areas with between 1 and 3 stages in each area. The player starts with 3 lives and 3 health points, a health point is lost if the character is hit by an enemy a live is lost if all health points are lost or the character falls down a hole. Health points can be obtained by picking up certain items during the game. When certain bosses are defeated a heart is obtained, collecting this heart increases the health capacity by one point. The character can have up to 6 health points. #sega #retrogaming #genxgrownup - SHOP http://genxgrownup.com/amazon http://GenXGrownUp.com/merch - PODCAST http://GenXGrownUp.com/pod - SUPPORT US https://patreon.com/genxgrownup - WEB & SOCIAL http://GenXGrownUp.com/discord https://twitch.tv/genxgrownup http://fb.me/GenXGrownUp https://bsky.app/profile/genxgrownup.com https://www.tiktok.com/@genxgrownup https://www.instagram.com/genxgrownup/ http://GenXGrownUp.com - SPONSORS King of Nerds » http://kingofnerds.tv Order of Cosmic Champions » http://www.orderofcosmicchampions.com - CHAPTERS

1999 SPACE INVADERS on the Playstation | “Power-Ups Fix Everything!”

Think of what attracted you to Space Invaders in the past? It certainly wasn't killer graphics or sound effects. Gameplay has been and always will be its selling point. Even with a simple plot and ridiculously repetitive stages, it was addictive -- a narcotic, more appropriately, that kept us up for hours and ate tons of our hard-earned quarters. The objective: wipe out waves of aliens from your land-based vehicle, armed only with a laser cannon, while dodging enemy fire in coordinated attack formations. Simple in theory, yet so freakin difficult to accomplish. Twenty years later, the goal remains the same. The mission begins on Pluto and if you're lucky enough to survive the onslaught, you'll end up on Earth. In between, you'll encounter a slew of enemies, much smarter than before. Thirteen different alien species round out the roster, from your basic blue or yellow bugs to your more complex Blockers, Shifters, Kamikazes and Splitters. Don't expect them to quiver and die either. Some avoid your fire, some move out of their coordinated positions, and others try to damage your tank after being shot down. If that's not enough, you get to face a boss before moving on to another planet. #retrogaming #spaceinvaders #playstation #genxgrownup - SHOP http://genxgrownup.com/amazon http://GenXGrownUp.com/merch - PODCAST http://GenXGrownUp.com/pod - SUPPORT US https://patreon.com/genxgrownup - WEB & SOCIAL http://GenXGrownUp.com/discord https://twitch.tv/genxgrownup http://fb.me/GenXGrownUp https://bsky.app/profile/genxgrownup.com https://www.tiktok.com/@genxgrownup https://www.instagram.com/genxgrownup/ http://GenXGrownUp.com
