AYANEO has revealed the KONKR Pocket Advance, a modern retro handheld wrapped in the familiar horizontal shape of the original Game Boy Advance. With a widescreen display and the potential for far more powerful emulation than other GBA-style handhelds, could this little machine eventually handle systems like the PlayStation 2 and GameCube? There’s plenty to be excited about—but AYANEO still hasn’t revealed the processor, price, release date, or final performance specs. Also this week, a Brazilian court orders Microsoft to restore a hacked gamer’s Xbox account and digital library, Mario Kart Wii is recompiled for PC with potential 4K support and more than 200 tracks, and the RPCS3 emulator passes the milestone of making over 75% of the PlayStation 3 library playable. Plus, an unofficial Virtua Racing emulator brings Sega’s arcade classic to PC and Xbox with eight-player online racing, Evercade raises cartridge prices in the UK and Europe, Super Mario 64 somehow becomes “sort of” functional on the Panasonic 3DO, and Afterplay reveals that PSP and Dreamcast support are the most likely additions coming next to its browser-based emulation platform. Try Afterplay FREE: https://genxgrownup.com/afterplay Atari 2600 Asteroids is often remembered as an incredibly easy version of the arcade classic—but are most players judging the game by its easiest settings? In this Friday Plays, I move beyond the slow, forgiving default variation and play Game variation 4 on expert difficulty, with faster asteroids, hostile UFOs, hyperspace, and an extra ship every 10,000 points. It may not be an accurate recreation of the original vector arcade game, but it remains an effective and highly playable adaptation. The question is whether turning up the challenge changes its reputation. #atari #retrogaming #arcade #genxgrownup - SHOP http://genxgrownup.com/amazon http://GenXGrownUp.com/merch - PODCAST http://GenXGrownUp.com/pod - SUPPORT US https://patreon.com/genxgrownup - WEB & SOCIAL http://GenXGrownUp.com/discord https://twitch.tv/genxgrownup http://fb.me/GenXGrownUp https://bsky.app/profile/genxgrownup.com https://www.tiktok.com/@genxgrownup https://www.instagram.com/genxgrownup/ http://GenXGrownUp.com - SPONSORS Fightbox » https://genxgrownup.com/fightbox King of Nerds » http://kingofnerds.tv Order of Cosmic Champions » http://www.orderofcosmicchampions.com

Test drive Afterplay » https://genxgrownup.com/afterplay This 2005 Excalibur Space Invaders Mini Arcade looked too cool to leave behind at a toy show — even if I wasn’t completely sure it worked. Turns out, it only partially works. So today I’m cleaning it up, testing it, and trying to figure out whether this little tabletop arcade can be rescued. It has the look, it has the charm, and it definitely has a problem.
