Towering Inferno on the Atari 2600 is one of several firefighting games on the console - and firefighting can always be harrowing. But the plot & game mechanic of this one is singularly terrifying. The disaster film, The Towering Inferno, starring Steve McQueen & Paul Newman, was released to theatres in 1974, and nearly a decade later, US Games obtained the video game rights from 20th Century Fox. #atari #retrogaming #genxgrownup - SHOP http://genxgrownup.com/amazon http://GenXGrownUp.com/merch - PODCAST http://GenXGrownUp.com/pod - SUPPORT US https://patreon.com/genxgrownup - WEB & SOCIAL http://GenXGrownUp.com/discord https://twitch.tv/genxgrownup http://fb.me/GenXGrownUp https://bsky.app/profile/genxgrownup.com https://www.tiktok.com/@genxgrownup https://www.instagram.com/genxgrownup/ http://GenXGrownUp.com - SPONSORS King of Nerds » http://kingofnerds.tv Order of Cosmic Champions » http://www.orderofcosmicchampions.com

Shop X-Arcade: https://genxgrownup.com/xgaming Atari just announced a massive new Activision collection bringing 39 classic games back on physical cartridges — but if your goal is simply to play a bunch of those Activision favorites, there’s now a much less expensive option. The new HyperMegaTech Activision Edition Super Pocket packs 34 classic games into a $69.99 handheld, including Pitfall!, H.E.R.O., River Raid, Keystone Kapers, Kaboom!, Chopper Command, Seaquest, Pressure Cooker, and plenty more. In this video, I take a close look at the Activision Super Pocket, check out its fantastic retro-inspired design, play through a selection of the included games, and compare its lineup with both Atari’s newly announced Activision releases and the three existing Evercade Activision cartridges. How much overlap is there? What’s missing? And if you mainly want to PLAY these games rather than collect new physical releases, could this little handheld be the better value? Let’s find out. #atari #evercade #retrogaming #activision - SHOP Pre-Order from Songbird » https://genxgrownup.com/songbird-spa Paul's Etsy Shop » https://www.etsy.com/shop/Innovative3DShop?ref=dashboard-header&section_id=59455531 http://genxgrownup.com/amazon http://GenXGrownUp.com/merch - PODCAST http://GenXGrownUp.com/pod - SUPPORT US https://patreon.com/genxgrownup - WEB & SOCIAL http://GenXGrownUp.com/discord https://twitch.tv/genxgrownup http://fb.me/GenXGrownUp https://bsky.app/profile/genxgrownup.com https://www.tiktok.com/@genxgrownup https://www.instagram.com/genxgrownup/ http://GenXGrownUp.com - SPONSORS Fightbox » https://genxgrownup.com/fightbox King of Nerds » http://kingofnerds.tv Order of Cosmic Champions » http://www.orderofcosmicchampions.com - CHAPTERS 00:00 Activision Edition 02:15 Game Breakdown 04:27 Box & Contents 05:13 Hardware Tour 08:13 Power On 09:52 Chopper Command 11:37 Demon Attack 13:17 Enduro 13:48 HERO 15:04 Keystone Kapers 15:48 Megamania 17:21 Pitfall II 17:58 River Raid 19:20 Starmaster 21:25 Conclusion

Atari’s classic 800XL home computer is making a comeback! Newly announced by Atari, THE 800XL from Retro Games Ltd. brings a full-sized mechanical keyboard, a working cartridge slot, and built-in Atari BASIC together with HDMI and modern gaming conveniences. In this announcement editorial, I take a look at what’s been revealed, what stands out, and why bringing back the computer experience makes this more interesting than just another box of retro games. THE 800XL includes 25 built-in games, USB loading for cartridge, disk, and cassette images, and announced software support for Atari’s 400, 800, XL, and XE computers, plus Atari 5200 games. Four save slots per game and up to 30 seconds of rewind bring some modern help to those vintage challenges. U.S. preorders opened October 8, 2026, at $219.99, with shipping scheduled to begin April 23, 2027. The package includes a THECXSTICK joystick. Did you grow up with an Atari computer?
