Atari released Tod Fry's VCS conversion of Pac-Man in 1981 to somewhat mixed reviews. Like the Star Wars prequels, Pac-Man has become more appreciated as the years pass, but at the time it left many players frustrated and wanting more. So, the following year, when the home version of Ms. Pac-Man was set to be released, Atari seemed to be doing everything it could to put Mister in the past. Jon was among those disappointed with Pac-Man on the 2600, and he's also among those who have grown more fond of it over the years. But in 1982, the wound was still fresh. And it's clear Atari wanted players to know they were listening. M.U.L.E. is a 1983 strategy video game written for Atari 8-bit computers by Ozark Softscape. Designer Danielle Bunten Berry (credited as Dan Bunten) takes advantage of the four joystick ports of the Atari 400 and 800 to allow four-player simultaneous play. Published in 1983, M.U.L.E. was one of the first five games from Electronic Arts, alongside Axis Assassin, Archon: The Light and the Dark, Worms, and Hard Hat Mack.
