Atari 2600 STAR TREK: Strategic Operations Simulator | What’s NOMAD Doing Here?

Star Trek: Strategic Operations Simulator is a space combat simulation arcade video game based on the original Star Trek television program and movie series, and released by Sega in 1983. The original arcade game uses color vector graphics for both a 2D display and a 3D first-person perspective, and features synthesized speech. The player controls the Starship Enterprise and must defend sectors from invading Klingon ships. The game was manufactured in two styles of cabinets: an upright standup, and a sit-down/semi-enclosed deluxe cabinet with the player's chair modeled after the Star Trek: The Motion Picture's bridge chairs with controls integrated into the chair's arms. Star Trek was ported to the Commodore 64, TI-99/4A, Atari 8-bit computers, Atari 5200, Atari 2600, VIC-20, ColecoVision, and Apple II. #atari #retrogaming #startrek #genxgrownup - SHOP http://genxgrownup.com/amazon http://GenXGrownUp.com/merch - PODCAST http://GenXGrownUp.com/pod - SUPPORT US https://patreon.com/genxgrownup - WEB & SOCIAL http://GenXGrownUp.com/discord https://twitch.tv/genxgrownup http://fb.me/GenXGrownUp https://bsky.app/profile/genxgrownup.com https://www.tiktok.com/@genxgrownup https://www.instagram.com/genxgrownup/ http://GenXGrownUp.com - SPONSORS King of Nerds » http://kingofnerds.tv Order of Cosmic Champions » http://www.orderofcosmicchampions.com

DIG DUG Makes NO SENSE… And I Love It! | Namco’s Arcade Classic on the ATARI 2600

Dig Dug is a 1982 maze video game developed and published by Namco for arcades. It was released by Atari, Inc. in North America. The player digs underground tunnels to attack enemies in each level, by either inflating them to bursting or crushing them underneath rocks. Dig Dug was planned and designed by Masahisa Ikegami with help from Galaga creator Shigeru Yokoyama. It was programmed for the Namco Galaga arcade board by Shouichi Fukatani, who worked on many of Namco's earlier arcade games, along with Toshio Sakai. Music was composed by Yuriko Keino, including the character movement jingle at executives' request, as her first Namco game. Namco heavily marketed it as a "strategic digging game". #atari #retrogaming #arcade #genxgrownup - SHOP http://genxgrownup.com/amazon http://GenXGrownUp.com/merch - PODCAST http://GenXGrownUp.com/pod - SUPPORT US https://patreon.com/genxgrownup - WEB & SOCIAL http://GenXGrownUp.com/discord https://twitch.tv/genxgrownup http://fb.me/GenXGrownUp https://bsky.app/profile/genxgrownup.com https://www.tiktok.com/@genxgrownup https://www.instagram.com/genxgrownup/ http://GenXGrownUp.com - SPONSORS Fightbox » https://genxgrownup.com/fightbox King of Nerds » http://kingofnerds.tv Order of Cosmic Champions » http://www.orderofcosmicchampions.com

Carmageddon’s Back to Paint the Streets Red + More Retro News!

Carmageddon is back and bloodier than ever! ?? In this episode of Bit By Bit, we’re diving into Carmageddon: Rogue Shift, the new roguelite spin on the classic death-racing series, heading to PS5, Xbox Series, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2 in early 2026. We’ll talk post-apocalyptic zombie hordes, brutal car combat, and whether this new direction can really bring Carmageddon roaring back to life. Then we’re jumping over to Stranger Things season 5, where a “totally unforgivable” NES blooper has retro gamers laughing, groaning, and nitpicking frame-by-frame. We’ll break down the Ghosts ’n Goblins arcade/console mix-up and why tiny details like this matter so much to ’80s kids and cartridge purists. Finally, we look at a decade-long retrobrighting study that suggests our beloved console-whitening tricks might actually be doing more harm than good. From a poor Dreamcast shell to streaking, blotching, and worse yellowing over time, we’ll talk about what this means for restoring (or not restoring) your aging plastic hardware. If you love retro gaming, weird tech experiments, and catching every tiny on-screen mistake, you’re in the right place. Hit play, share with a fellow retro nut, and let us know in the comments: Are you hyped for Carmageddon: Rogue Shift—and will you still risk retrobrighting your gear? STICK on the LEFT & BUTTONS on the RIGHT Is Not for Everyone!

You've surely noticed that almost every modern game controller puts the directional controls on the left and the action buttons on the right. Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo -- pretty much everybody. But here’s the thing - That layout wasn't always the standard. In fact, some of the earliest home console controllers were ambidextrous, or even designed to be held in the left hand while working the joystick with the right. So how did we end up with the layout we all take for granted today, and is it wrong? #retrogaming #handheldgaming #genxgrownup - SHOP http://genxgrownup.com/amazon http://GenXGrownUp.com/merch - PODCAST http://GenXGrownUp.com/pod - SUPPORT US https://patreon.com/genxgrownup - WEB & SOCIAL http://GenXGrownUp.com/discord https://twitch.tv/genxgrownup http://fb.me/GenXGrownUp https://bsky.app/profile/genxgrownup.com https://www.tiktok.com/@genxgrownup https://www.instagram.com/genxgrownup/ http://GenXGrownUp.com - SPONSORS King of Nerds » http://kingofnerds.tv Order of Cosmic Champions » http://www.orderofcosmicchampions.com
